Re: Default MIDI Output

I've never really noticed this behavior, and there may be a preference to address it (someone else will hopefully chime in), but the reason I've not noticed is because I have a template set up from which I begin every production, and that template includes most, if not all, of the tracks and insert...

Default MIDI Output

This might be quite basic but I can't seem to find a solution in previous postings or in the manual. When I add a new MIDI track in DP, the output defaults to something I'll never use as a output. It's the same if I add multiple tracks. So, say I create 10 MIDI tracks in one go. All of them default ...

Re: Unexpected end of file (-39)

Hey Mike, Thanks for your input here. Reading through some of the other threads on this topic, I see your advocacy for this method. I will certainly be reconsidering how I do things. I got sloppy for sure and this situation could have been so much worse, eg. a failed drive with months of work lost. ...

Re: Unexpected end of file (-39)

Anything in the autosave folder inside the project folder? Eh...turns out I didn't have Autosave turned on. I got so used to Apple+s that I never bothered with it. That and backups for insurance. Forgot it was there tbh! Luckily I've never lost any significant amount of work....since 2002 or so. To...

Re: Unexpected end of file (-39)

Thanks for that, MLC. I've been trying various things and nothing's worked. I hadn't tried 'safe' mode but that didn't work either. The DP file is 7KB so I suspect there is basically nothing there. I can't remember the exact sequence of events but, thinking back, it may not have been the drive going...

Unexpected end of file (-39)

Hey all, I've received this dreaded message and I know exactly why. From reading different threads on here, I'm probably out of luck but I thought I'd ask anyway in case there's something I can try. I've been working on a new project and I'm at the ideas stage. I have a DP project with random bits a...

Re: How do you guys handle quick sketching of ideas etc..?

For what it's worth, I also have a "Blank Test File" DP project. In fact, I have 2. One has a few random soundbites it it, short and long decay (like a few drum hits and synth pads). I use this to test delays, reverbs, other plug-ins etc. The other is blank with the exception of tracks rea...

Re: Motif patch list.

Turns out the problem was simply capital letters. I had set up the keyboard as 'Motif' in Audio MIDI Setup. The .midnam file was saved as 'MOTIF'. So it didn't reference the sound banks until I changed to all capitals. (Incidentally 'Yamaha' should be written with a capital Y, then small letters). H...

Re: Motif patch list.

I always put the patch name in the 'comments' section.
Usually have my own weird names for tracks!
Having worked with and without a patch list, definitely don't like to work without them.
If I can't work this out with Motu, I'll just go back to the Fastlane.

Re: Where are DP 8 Preferences stored?

For reference I'm going to post the response I got from Motu regarding this. I had switched from OS 10.6 to 10.9 so the hidden user library folder may have been implemented a couple of updates ago. Anyway, it was new to me. Motu support has really come a long way since I last used it many years ago....

Re: Motif patch list.

Thanks Dave for the response. In the past I have used the keyboard to switch sounds but I much prefer to have it in DP. I like to edit notes, switch sounds, switch back, try different things in one place (i.e. DP), otherwise I'd be back and forth and it would interrupt workflow. Plus it's a lot easi...

Re: Volume Control

If he's DJ'ing he'll be needing main out plus a separate headphone mix.
The best way to do that that might be to have the headphones come out of the mixer.
Anyway if he provides more details we can see what he's at.

Re: Volume Control

What exactly is the problem? Is there no sound at all coming through or is it too low or is it fixed and you can't control it? I'm assuming you mean a separate analogue multi channel DJ mixer. If the headphones and the main outputs are going out through the same channels, then you should be hearing ...

Re: Where are DP 8 Preferences stored?

Does anyone know where the preferences are stored in OS 10.9?
Since switching to Mavericks I seem to have all my templates but not my preferences or clippings.
There's no Library folder in the User folder.

Motif patch list.

Every couple of years this problem raises its ugly head for me, I fail to solve it and move on. I just thought this time I'd ask on here. I've been using the Motu Fastlane USB to connect my Yamaha Motif 6 to DP for over a decade. I've switched to straight USB for periods but I have always lost my pa...
