Jay:

Make sure Lynx doesn't give half-assed Mac support. That could kill you. The Cubase/Nuendo consistuency should tell you this may be a PC favored ride.

If they don't have good CoreAudio drivers you could be screwed!

Re: Can anybody eles hear the difference in sonic quality be

WOW! That would confirm what I thought I was hearing - some highend hash and graininess. I just wasn't sure if my ears were playing tricks with me. That was with the CPU meter at 10%? That's disturbing and needs to be reported to MOTU!!! What was the buffer setting at? Now here's one other explanati...

Re: Can anybody eles hear the difference in sonic quality be

Okay, I spent some more time playing with the work priorities. I played with a 36 track mix with about 40 plug ins on a Dual 1.8 G5. I usually work at HIgh with a buffer setting of 1024 (for mixing)... everything sounds great. CPU meter at 30 - 40%. Step the buffer setting incrementally down to 256....

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

Thermos: Unfortunately, I'm presently an ITB guy so I have no means of hearing what you're hearing... just like the guy at MOTU ;-) Can you post the mix to the web done at Low and High so we can all hear what a huge difference it makes? Please read my post on your other thread. It is more detailed. ...

Re: Can anybody eles hear the difference in sonic quality be

I think you guys are missing the point. Choking your computer under any circumstances is going to yield negative results, potentially yielding poor audio quality. Isn't that obvious. I tested the Work Priority settings and bounced the same mix at Low and at High. When flipped out of phase with each ...

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

Tried the Work Priority Test. SCAM! No difference. I bounced the song at High, then changed the Work priority to Low and rebounced. Played them together out of phase. 100% cancelation. Now I wasn't listening to playback quality from one Priority to the other, but as far as the rendering of audio dur...

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

Just ran the test. YOU ARE ALL FAKING YOURSELVES OUT!!! All 3 mixes, a BTD, a realtime bounce, and the lightpipe out and in to a stereo track all nulled completely. There is no difference in the summing AT ALL! Now I should add that this test will only work if you aren't using time variant plugs - t...

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

Thermos: That's interesting about the DB8. I've heard the summing buss in that was terrible. Can't vouch for it myself, but I do understand what you are saying about DP's summing. It can sound ceramic and have that wonky low end, but at other times I've gotten some really rich, fat sounding mixes. T...

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

Mike I surely understand all you are saying about the smudged glasses, but why now through the same smudged glasses is everything clearer? As Jayman said, and I agree, Ken's a great engineer, but it doesn't hurt having $20,000 D/A converters and $30,000 hand built EQ's either. I didn't necessarily l...

Re: dudes... i got it! i effin' got it!

I've been thinking about this whole subject of analog bussing as of late and was looking at multichannel DAC's (and gasping for air), when it dawned on me, "What about the MOTU HD192?" 12 in and outs and it is supposed to sound as good as the Digi192 (or so I hear). The specs are impressiv...
