Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"

Hey, guys, [I really appreciate the info on the MacPro upgrades. That's some really useful information and something I'm sure anyone with an early MacPro would be interested in, however, I've noticed the large pink banner stamped across the top of this thread and have taken note that this is not the...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Thank, guys. This is great info. It's also got me thinking about going with a Firewire console for I/O. What do you think about the Presonus? Can anyone compare the Mackie Onyx to the ZED-R16 to the Midas Venice F or others I'm not thinking of with a MOTU Firewire interface? How do the drivers fair ...

Re: Melodyne 2 is out

Fair enough. I haven't used Melodyne in some time, so if they've improved the sound quality, bravo for them, I just thought what I heard before sounded cheesy. That said, I think the sound quality of AT and DP's pitch correction is really good. Regarding Melodyne's features, I know Melodyne allows y...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

James: If you've been following this thread, I'm in the same boat as you, only with an older tower - a Dual 1.8 G5 - with a 2408mkIII and HD192. I have no reason to get rid of the interfaces, their great, but considering the cost, and potential demise, of a MacPro, I'm reluctant to dive in. I'm seri...

Re: Melodyne 2 is out

Been using Autotune for years with DP. Between it and DP's pitch correction you can't go wrong. Just set AT's action to slow and use DP's pitch lines to nudge things that AT is pulling to the wrong note or not pulling far enough or fast enough. Had 75 tracks of AT'd vocals in the last project witho...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Sooo... apart from expandability and I/O, can anyone vouch for using DP with an iMac or Macbook Pro with a Thunderbolt hard drive and a Firewire interface? How does it compare in regard to performance to having an 8-core MacPro?

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Aye. I was just at an Apple Store today and got to talking to one of the salesmen. He didn't know anything more about the MacPro than I did, but dabbles with audio and said he does some audio work with Logic. He was curious to see what Apple would do with the MacPro next as well. He did mention that...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

I think I'd beg, borrow, and steal before I bought a PC at this point. I've always hated Windows in every conceivable version. I've been using a Mac since 1986. In the words of Apple, "It just works." It's intuitive, reliable, and powerful. It works the way I think. Apple's customer servic...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Well, one thing is sure... I'm not going to go wrong with a MacPro. I looked on eBay to see what one would cost used and it's certainly cheaper than a new iMac! The only question at this point is how badly do I need portability. Thanks for your help all. I'm getting closer to a decision!

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Yeah, I mean I'd love to just be able to throw the money at an 8 core MacPro, but I just don't have it. I'm pretty certain I could get by with the power of an i7 iMac for tracking and mixing. I don't do a lot with VI's, and if I do, I just print them. I guess the question I still have is whether rep...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Yeah, hadn't really thought of a Mini. I guess I priced that out sometime ago and if you have to buy a monitor and keyboard and all the other stuff, it comes out to the price of an iMac. So, I went with the iMac, but that was before they had a server version. Regarding the iMac, my little Core2Duo r...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro

Thanks guys for your responses. Sounds like you all are in favour of the MacPro. David, I agree with you that you have to jump in at some point and you can't wait for the stars to align knowing they'll be out of whack tomorrow. I just don't want to buy something that is already obsolete, and I'm afr...

Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"

Okay, so I've been pondering this for some time. I'm not really ready to make any purchases and many things could still change in the next few months, but I'm wanting some of your input. My dilemma is this: I've downgraded my professional status to hobbyist because I no longer make a living from pro...

Re: Firewire Pres (I'm truly stuck)

Maybe I've got a loose nut... I just ASSumed MotuNation is just a DP version of Gearslutz. Just sayin' we've got a pretty happy family here. I'm sure if the moderators here had an issue with the thread, they'd take care of it. Seems like trolling to me to come on here and start policing us long-tim...

Please refer to the Forum Rules highlighted in red at the top of the page right underneath this thread's title. Wha??? Two posts and you're telling us how to follow the rules? Dude, most of us have been here for years... this is a community. Nothing wrong with the posts here. May not be DP, but it ...
