it took me a minute to understand but i think i can help. normally the video card that has the ADC on it has both an analog and digital signal on those pins but apple's newer monitors only carry digital signals and the extra pins are not wired for analog but they will plug into a DVI socket (adapte...

I've used the Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter to hook up my original 22" Apple Cinema Display to my MacPro without any problems. That's the problem - I know the adapter will support an Apple Cinema Display from a DVI output. But I want to go from a ADC (for the Apple Cinema Display) output to DVI (VG...

ADC to DVI adapter

I'm trying to hook up a second monitor to my G5 dual 1.8. This computer was made back when Apple was pushing the Apple Cinema Display....so there's a DVI output (no prob) and an ADC output (big prob). Does anybody know of an adapter or converter that will work? Belkin made one a long time back, that...

No country though because DP hates the 2 feel in G major with the ascending bass line and crashes every time. I've talked to MOTU countless times about it and they told me one the original programers had a very bad experience with country music in the early 80's and wrote deep in the code this bug ...

For what it's worth - I don't know about the mini, but to add to what Emu said, I have an Intel iMac 20" 2Ghz, 2 Gb ram at work, and a G5 dual 1.8 w/4 gb ram at home. DP 5.13 on both, and the iMac kicks the snot out of the G5, and that's using the boot drive on the iMac versus an internal secon...

You guys are funny. :D I use DP for mostly country. I used to use a Roland hard disk recorder (which I kinda liked), but my wife fliped out and poured a coke (or somethin') on it - and that was the end of that. I had DP for VI's, so it was a natural progression - and it's workin' out just fine, than...

Audio hiss/static

My G5, dual 1.8 has developed a soft hiss or static (almost squeeky) sound. It's not loud, but it can get annoying when things are quiet and I'm trying to concentrate. I noticed at first through the built-in mini I/O, which I hardly ever use, so no prob. But now I'm hearing it through an Apogee Duet...

Occasional track droupout

Every so often, I will hit playback and a track will not be in the mix (or on the meters). Seems like it's usually bass or lead vocal (or maybe there's other's, but vox and bass are most notable in the heat of tracking). Doesn't happen often, and if I stop and start again it pops back in, so it's no...

Can you tell me about this "grit"? I swear sometimes I hear something that I could call "grit" or "fuzz" or "high end harshness" sometimes while tracking with my RME Fireface 800. I wonder if this is the same thing you are talking about. Is what you are talki...

Exactly opposite. Mine recorded crackly, and it was on the track. Thanks for the insight.

Dude - are you like, a teacher or something? That was a very lucid answer. Thanks.

My G5 is a dual 1.8, so if I mix at, say 1024, is there any necessity to change work priority to mix?

Work Priority

I recently bought an Apogee Duet to use with my DP5.13 (bought after the 1'st, but waiting for the upgrade). Anyway, there is tremendous crackles 'N' pops on record (through a G5, 10.4.11). I love the sound of the Duet, but I've tried everything to get rid of the snap, crackle, pop. Nothing under 51...

Excellent! Thanks for the info. Ordinarily, I never print effects, except in this case, I know exactly what I'm gonna get.

Tracking with EQ

I'm tracking in DP5.13 and I can't find this in the manual. Is there a way to add EQ on the way in? I've got a strange timber to my voice that I can correct with EQ. I used to track with a mixer, and I had an EQ patch that made my vox OK on the way in. Now I'm using a Duet, but if I EQ the track, I ...

Funny - I've never heard the word kludgy before, but I know exactly what you mean. :D
