Re: Ideal video specs for size and compression?
i also just use QT Pro to render my own work copies - i like to keep on the editors' good sides! i export "movie to quicktime movie" with h264 compression, current framerate, automatic key frames, frame reordering, best quality (multi-pass) encoding, restrict data rate to 1500 kbits/sec, 9...

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
not sure - could be because i'm still in DP 7.24? i haven't tested it in a while, so it may have been fixed in an update to ve pro since the last time it happened to me. i'll test it again the next time i fire up my system.

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
i meant the channel that has the event input plug inserted on it (technically it's probably an instrument track) - if you disable that (blue dot method), it wipes out any MIDI tracks' channel assignments that are "pointed" at it.

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
hi CT, thanks for shooting me an email - you're right, i don't check this forum very often these days, and i've been crazy busy finishing up a score so i'm just now coming up for air after several months of 16 hour days - ugh! regarding your questions, i definitely don't know it all, and i'm constan...

Re: VEP5 w/ Event Input = Lots of Stuck & Missing Notes
yep, i came to the same conclusion - i've gotten used to life without latency compensation. it's really not that bad, but hopefully someday they'll fix it!

Re: VEP5 w/ Event Input = Lots of Stuck & Missing Notes
i'm not sure if this is what's causing it, but make sure your MIDI data is only being routed to that instrument once. i use an app called "midipipe" to combine the MIDI outputs of several keyboards, a korg nanokontrol, and an ipad running touchosc all to one MIDI stream so i can set that a...

Re: trim plug on master fader
i'd venture a guess that the mastering engineer only recommends those peak levels so that his clients don't use excessive compression/limiting at the mixdown stage.

Re: trim plug on master fader
why not just turn down the master fader? using a trim plugin would be fine though too, as far as i know.

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
yes, disabling automatic latency compensation will affect your setup with DP8, but not DP7 because it never actually worked until DP8 (or so i've read - i haven't installed DP8 yet). i disabled it because i was having tons of dropped notes with ALC enabled (especially when i had any UAD plugins on a...

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
by the way, i'm still on DP 7.24 due to the issues i've read about on here (especially with movie files). and i'm using VEP v5.1.11849 - i had trouble with the version after that and had to revert back. i know there's an even more recent version, but i'm mid-project and don't have time to test it.

Re: Optimizing DP for fast response
i have a very large VEP template too (35 event input plugins, 30 stereo audio channels returning to DP). other than trial and error spent tweaking the "configure studio settings" (every system will be different, but mine are prime seconds: 2.50, work quanta: 80, max work percent: 80%, auto...

Re: UA and delay compensation in 7.24 & 8
i've run into this same problem with UAD/DP/VE Pro. i'm still in 7.24 - still waiting on a more stable DP8 (especially watching the problems with .mov windows). anyway, i found that using UAD plugs on any aux or master fader that was carrying audio coming back from my PC VE Pro slave would cause gli...

Re: I've decided to move to a Windows Machine
here's my spreadsheet (i'm such a nerd). i got a little lazy toward the end as far as filling out every little cell. i did compare them all, but i just started just filling in the best price once i found it. here's a link to a bigger copy so you can read it better: http://www.mattmortonmusic.com/ima...

Re: I've decided to move to a Windows Machine
i wanted to follow up with the results of farming out my orchestral template to my new PC (via VE Pro 5 over my gigabit LAN) instead of running it on the same computer as DP. before: 2010 6-core 3.33 ghz mac pro with 32 gb ram running os 10.6.8, DP 7.24, and VE Pro 5. boot drive: 2 TB western digita...
