I'm long overdue to upgrade my 2008 Mac Pro and I was set on the Mac Mini. I was hoping to see the announcement for a new Mac Mini that would allow for more RAM but no. The Mac Studio sure looks good but seems overkill for audio (when a Mac Mini can do the job really) and at 3X the cost.

I finally will be able to retire my 2008 Power Mac and upgrade to Mac Mini M1 and DP11 (still on Dp9) I have some catch up to do. Albeit I wonder if I should wait for a Mac Mini that will offer more than 16GB of RAM...

The new Macs handle RAM, which is stamped into the chip, very differently than they have previously. It's not yet clear if the metric we've used heretofore, to determine how much RAM is needed, is even relevant. That's good to know! I'd be happy not having to need more than 16gb once DP is running ...

I was going to get a Mac Mini M1 to finally replace my 2008 Mac Pro but I just found out the RAM is capped at 16GB (instead of 64GB for the Intel model).

Pretty much all my stuff worked, but some of it won't work if and when I have to move to Catalina. What won't work once you moved to Catalina? Mike is right about the 2408 -- it will be a lot of fussing around if you want to keep using it as your every day interface. I have mine connected via ADAT ...
