'nother irish user here. Living in West Clare. Have made a few other converts down here too! started on atari and notator with akai samplers. been using Performer since version 3.5 or so...had DP 1.42 but not much point using that (no TDM system) till powerPC's and native support came in around DP2....

Re: DP & Leopard... This is not good - DO NOT UPGRADE YE
Visitors to MOTU's website in recent days have been made aware of this. Why would you install Leopard? Are you looking to cause grief and frustration in your life? Michael Just ordered new 2.4 MBP 17" exclusively for running DP. This will come with Leopard, as all new shipping macs do now. No ...

bad installer disk perhaps?
regardless, i doubt that you need to get back to os8.6 to run DP2.5. I know os9.0.4 works with DP 2.5, and 2.6, and i would be fairly sure 9.2.2 would too. firstly, i assume you have enough RAM, though i cant imagine a dual-1gig with too little RAM for DP2.6! also, you would want to make sure your R...

dp2.5 should work fine on os9 g4
I have used performer since version3.4-something and dp since version1.4.
dp2.5, 2.6, 2.7 all will work fine with os9 on a g4. 2.72 is the most stable of the bunch. what problems are you having when you try and install them?

You're right to consider an upgrade. I think you'd be a little bit dissapointed with the performance hit coming from os9/dp3.11. There are lots of upgrade options for you. If I were you (already having a dual533), I wouldnt bother with anything less than a dual 1gig...Which means you will be shellin...

compression
the cumulative effect of dynamics processing (compressors) on individual tracks, and to an even greater extent on groups/busses and finished mixes (ie in mastering) can also make vocals sit into tracks.

Thanks zerosin - I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. :) Do you have any idea how my lowly Ti550MHZ PB will be able to handle dp? Admittedly, I'd be just as happy with MIDI and being able to record just a couple of tracks as audio via the Traveler. (I'm only just getting back into it ...

Re: Sonnet G4 upgrade for B&W G3?
Dave? why is that? I looked on the Sonnet sight and of course didn't see much about bus speeds. I have a B&W G3 that I put a Sonnet G4/500 mhz a couple years back and it has worked great with DP.3.11 in OS 9. OS X runs great on it too, but haven't jumped into DP 4.X on it. Afraid I would take a...

Un-optimized and buggy software seems to be the bottleneck far before any hardware limitation these days. Why does my E-MU E5000 Ultra with its 604e 66MHz PPC and 128MB of SIMM RAM out perform Mach Five? Hmm. I wonder. Its called dedicated DSP. Also to the guy who is thinking of getting a dual G4 i...

Re: Best Upgrade for a G4?
I have a sonnet 1gig in my sawtooth (originally 400MHz) and it is the best upgrade I have ever done (and I have upgraded many many macs over the years) The upgrade gave my mac a whole new life. Admittedly I am still using DP3/os9. On the down side, there is a fan that now stays on that I never even ...

Re: Sonnet G4 upgrade for B&W G3?
the only downside to that 1gig sonnet in your b/w G3 is that your bus speed gets whacked down to 66MHz from its original 100MHz. So there is a trade off for apps (like audio, say) that like a phat bus. I was considering the same for my YikesG4/350 but decided to leave it as is...(not my main rig any...
