Re: Firewire 2024: Today's Macs and Sequoia?
Yes, that appears to be the case. After re-enabling full security the MOTU was no longer recognised. Then when security was disabled again, it was necessary to reinstall the MOTU driver. I notice both the TB and FW adapters become quite warm. I haven't been able to find any stats for the Ultralite's...

Re: Firewire 2024: Today's Macs and Sequoia?
Confirming, my Firewire-only Ultralite is working great under Sequoia. Bus powered too. Using the dongles and instructions linked to by @mikehalloran
One thing I wonder about... is it okay to restore the standard macOS security option after getting up and running?

Re: MacOS Ventura & USB and Hybrid audio interfaces & Firewire/Thunderbolt-adapter support
That makes sense. One of my phantom power toggles is actually stuck in the off position anyway! I did the Ventura update today and all appears to be fine here too. I experienced some worrying audio dropouts at first, but that seems to have resolved now that the system has settled down after reindexi...

Re: MacOS Ventura & USB and Hybrid audio interfaces & Firewire/Thunderbolt-adapter support
I'm not sure how bus-power affects battery life, since the MacBook is on the AC adapter all day. I imagine it would not be great because the time I did try the MOTU PSU (in attempt to cure a ground loop) the wall wart became quite hot which usually means there's significant power consumption. I shou...

Re: MacOS Ventura & USB and Hybrid audio interfaces & Firewire/Thunderbolt-adapter support
Those same Apple FW-TB adapters still work with Intel and Apple Silicon through TB2–TB3 adapters except that those TB adapters do not pass bus power at all. I use my MOTU Ultralite exclusively with bus-power. Going from my 2019 MacBook Pro through the Apple TB3-TB2 adapter, then TB2-Firewire and fi...

That looks very promising indeed! You first though.

Re: MacOS Ventura & USB and "Hybrid" audio interfaces?
Just to clarify, when you say "should be fine for now" are you saying it should be fine to stick to Monterey, or that upgrading to Ventura should be fine?

Re: MacOS Ventura & USB and "Hybrid" audio interfaces?
I'm going to hold off for a bit (which from prior experience means I'll cave in and upgrade in a couple of days from now). My main concern is whether my original Firewire Ultralite will continue working with my current chain of Thunderbolt 3/2/Firewire 800/400 adapters. Still works like a champ unde...

Re: Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur
It works. Many recent threads on this subject. See below. Would this also apply to the Ultralite mk1 firewire? I'm upgrading my Mac and would love to continue using the Ultralite if possible. I already have a FW800 to FW400 cable, an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire adapter. Looks like I'd still nee...

Re: Upgrading My 2008 Mac Pro
FWIW, my 2008 Mac Pro is still going strong. Upgraded to an SSD drive and Nvidia graphics card which allowed me install Mojave using a patch by Dosdude. I was tempted to get an M1 Mini, but looks like I'd need a new interface since the Firewire Ultralite isn't supported (yet?). Anyway the 2008 still...

Re: Mojave Voice Memos and Motu MicroBook IIc
I realise this is a very old thread, but I have the same problem with my Ultralite and Mojave. If I try to record into Voice Memos, it just freezes. When I switch my audio input (in System Preferences / Sound) to a non-Motu device, then it records fine (but obviously not a solution because my mic is...

Re: ultralite mk3 mac M1 and big Sur
You gotta hand it to them too.. That single driver has kept my 828MK2 in business for 16 years now and still works heh. The mk3 is what 10-11 years old or so? I 'upgraded' to the 828x, which is still being sold (no clue if its actually still in production or not), so as long that is still on their ...

Re: How to install MOTU Legacy interface support in CATALINA
Thanks for this. What are the chances of this working on the new M1 Macs? I have the Mk1 Ultralite (Firewire only). I've read this can work on recent Intel machines with a Thunderbolt2 to Thunderbolt1 adapter going into Thunderbolt1 to FW adapter (which I already have). But I guess M1 is whole new k...
