Re: Daisychaining 3x 828s
Ok so after more troubleshooting I've concluded that the new 828 mk2 is dud and have ordered another in full working order (1.01 firmware). So theoretically what is the best way to hook these up when it arrives? I'm thinking of doing exactly what the manual says: 1. MK2 (thunderbolt to firewire in +...

Re: How to Update 828 Mk 2 firmware from 1.00 to 1.01
Ahhh right I get you. So basically need a Mac pre-2006 to run the file... Is there any way to do a firmware upgrade with a modern day mac?

Re: How to Update 828 Mk 2 firmware from 1.00 to 1.01
Any ideas how I can go about doing this in 2021 on Catalina? I tried to run the update in terminal but got "bad cpu type in executable". Probably cos it's a 32 bit exec file... Would something like Crossover work here or do I need to access a mac running Mojave?

Re: Daisychaining 3x 828s
Yeah running as an aggregate device for all 3. Previous setup was an aggregate device for the MK2 and original connected over firewire and optical i/o. Tried your suggestion Markus and just got full red LEDs and feedback in Ableton. Tried hooking it up directly to the iMac outside of the chain and a...

Daisychaining 3x 828s
Hey all, So I'm slowly building my MOTU firewire empire (2x 828 MKII FW & 1x 828 original) to multitrack 24 channels into Ableton (running Catalina on an iMac and use the thunderbolt to firewire adaptor) but I'm running into some problems in the chain. It's worth noting that my previous setup fo...

Sample Accurate Sync from DAW using MTP AV USB + 828 MKII FW
Hi all, I recently bought a MTP AV USB and MTP II to allow for more flexible MIDI routing within my hardware setup. I've got them linked up via network cable, running in Clockworks on the latest build of Catalina, and as a standalone 16x16 MIDI patchbay routing MIDI from my MPC1000 it's absolutely f...

828 MKII + 828 + Mackie CR1604 VLZ
Hey guys, Wondering if you could assist in getting this set up for recording. My aim is to route my hardware and a stereo sum of the soft synths I use in Ableton into channels 1-8 on the mixer, feed these channels into Ableton for FX and processing, then route them back into the mixer on channels 9-...

Re: Firewire & Mac OSX
I don't think it's anything to do with a loose connection as the cables and connections can withstand a fair bit of wiggle. The audio drops when I'm not even in the room! I've got 3 FireWire ports to test this with and it does it with every single one. But I'll ring Motu and see what they say. Other...

Firewire & Mac OSX
Ok so this has been going on for over six months and I'm now at breaking point to be honest... No matter how hard I try, a stable connection via FireWire on Mac OSX just seems impossible. I can't get stable audio for more than 5 minutes before it drops out and emits a high pitched whine. I've got an...

Re: 828 MKII FW Crash / Whine
Great thank you!
I just managed to cop a Mk1 for £16... Hopefully the FW ports work on this one!
Which cables would I need to daisychain to MkII? 2x standard Optical Cables?
Also any suggestions for a USB to MIDI solution? I only need one MIDI in and one MIDI out at the moment.
Cheers,

Re: 828 MKII FW Crash / Whine
Nope, it's back with a vengeance and I've had enough. Time to do something about it. I don't really want to send it off / pay an inspection fee and still have the same issues. The idea of daisy-chaining the faulty unit to another working FW / USB unit via ADAT to double my I/Os interests me. Could I...

Re: 828 MKII FW Crash / Whine
I THINK I may have solved the issue. I read somewhere online that you need to open CueMix and push all the faders up to avoid audio dropouts. Not sure why this would be the case but amazingly it seems to have worked. I've saved it as the default hardware preset so it should be set up automatically n...

Re: 828 MKII FW Crash / Whine
Yeah I most definitely won't be attempting that... Looks as though I could get this repaired for £110 + VAT at the link below. http://musictrack.co.uk/repairs/service-and-support.html Although at that price though I could just buy another and daisy-chain the two of them... I've actually found an ori...

Re: 828 MKII FW Crash / Whine
Ah, this is what I'd feared... I bought this unit for £130 preowned and don't have anywhere near the funds to buy a new 828es. How fixable is it? Could I order the part and replace it myself? Would it be worth speaking to Motu about a possible repair? Having it as an additional I/O is a bit overkill...
