Social Media Strategy
I'm curious if anyone has given much thought to social media strategy, or if its a part of the mix of the business side of what your doing. As a kind of 101 of publicity you start local and niche, and then build out in a more global / mass media direction. Blogs and podcasts are niche to a degree no...

hmm, I think I have a take on this, but I'm sure its not one that's.. well I don't know what value it might be to you, so I hope you can tolerate my strangeness.... My all time favorite sound design guy is Walter Murch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Murch He did the sound work on THX1138 (yes,...

you know another thing I happened to think of, if Air doesn't have an optical drive, could we see a Mac Pro in the future without an optical drive? If so, perhaps a second hard drive? Perhaps internal raid? I understand there's hacks for such thing, but if Apple gave you the option, and it worked li...

I'm a starving artist, hoping to eat one day: A media artist, so I do all sort media, I guess. Music wise I'm trying to invent a new kind of music. It's a kind of radical jump into the unknown. Influences from John Cage, Frank Zappa, Brain Eno, Black Sabbath, Sun Ra, and who knows what else. I would...

opps, I meant encryption on the Blue Ray stuff Well.. I have software on this computer that lets you render VIs to disk, but its a little on the ridiculous side: Depending on what VIs I'm running I can maybe 2 or 3 instances.. those tend to be the less expensive processor wise. A lot of stuff you ca...

I don't know how helpful this is, but my impression is that your technical needs depend on how far up the food chain you're working. If you're doing small indie films or smaller ads.. or whatever, its a very different scene from large scale hollywood films. I have a very old 867 G4 PowerMac, and I'l...

Trying to invent a new kind of muisc; electronic adventures
I'd be real interested in getting any feed back or hearing what anyone might think about this. It's free stuff: http://virb.com/mattsearles/music/albums/19812 I'm basically trying to invent a new kind of music, or travel in directions that are radically different from anything I've ever heard before...

Here's an episode of Mac Break Tech (a geeked out podcast I tend to dig) that goes into RAID: http://macbreaktech.com/4/zulu-foxtrot-sierra-zfs/

I just wish it was a little less pricey. It seems like with a computer like that you could really carry it around without being too encumbered. Given, it's a little under powered for high end media stuff, but if it turned out you were bringing it around with you a lot more then you would with a bigg...

yeah, that's more or less what I figure. I mean audio work pushes the computer as hard as anything, so you'd figure software dedicated to that task would have to evolve to take advantage of that over time.. and not only that but If I'm doing general media as well as sound, I'm sure many of the other...

Looking to go with a New Mac / Software Upgrad
First, I'm using the Mac for things other then sound.. video, graphics, animation.. oh and sound to, but not just sound. Depending on what happens at MacWorld tomorrow, I have two choices to consider: A MacBook Pro or a Mac Pro. It turns out the way I'd configure them they'd likely cost just about t...
