I have both the dual 1.25 tower and a 1.67 powerbook runnign 4.52. I work on the same docs on both systems pretty good. But to many plugins (esp waves) and the audio starts to skip on the Powerbook, but runs fine on the Tower.. So far i havent had a problem working on 40 tracks of audio on the Power...

Pick up a Passive volume knob.
NHT makes one for $100.
