Re: DP 8 NOW AVAILABLE TO DEMO!!!!

Just in case you're looking at the DP performance meter, don't. It doesn't tell you much, and you might find the CPU performance is closer to Logic than it first appears. You're right, it doesn't tell much. I compared running the same content on both apps, and DP had pops and clicks playing back fa...

Re: DP 8 NOW AVAILABLE TO DEMO!!!!

Actually I was talking about the demo, mac in my case. I'm pretty impressed so far although I wish CPU performance was closer to Logic. Anyway, having a demo makes getting it more of a possibility.

Re: DP 8 NOW AVAILABLE TO DEMO!!!!

Great to see, now I can finally try it out. It includes the PDF manuals as well, so it should also put that discussion to rest (although I still don't see why they don't just have links to download them now).

Thanks to MOTU for making it available, don't know why it took so long.

Wind controllers really are the sweet spot for all the SM libraries.

Thanks for the info. Can any parameters be set or is it just a basic mult to the different tracks?

Re: Does EastWest Play Work with DP8?

I don't know, but to me "improved streaming engine, overall performance and efficiency" sure sounds like there could very well be some performance improvements. It's pretty much what they say black on white what the update will bring. From that same thread: while our software team has don...

Re: PC-Based Musician Shopping for new DAW! Questions.

Seems like a good place to add questions for prospective newcomers, so I'll add. Does DP have any sort of MIDI sends, meaning can you make a track that feeds a number of other tracks? For example if you have an orchestral template, can you make one track that sends MIDI to cello, trombone, and basso...

Re: Does EastWest Play Work with DP8?

EW has already said that Play 4 won't be much of a performance improvement on mac, I wouldn't get your hopes up about that.

Re: Confused about 64 bit mac and DP8

Are there any advantages to booting OSX Lion in 64 bit mode and starting apps in 64 bit mode? That's what I'm doing and it seems to help a lot of performance issues. Mainstage won't behave in 32 bit mode as I overload it. Advantage for 64 bit apps is mainly using more than 4 gigs of ram, also a mod...

Re: Shoot out , DP 8 vrs VE Pro

Booting the mac into 64 bit kernel and running an app in 64 bit are two separate things. For the kernel it makes very little difference. For apps, besides access to more memory, it can give a performance boost as well since the 64 bit hardware has some advantages (things like bigger/more buffers run...

Re: DP 8 HAS BEEN RELEASED

Still no sure explanation of why we would need a 32bit kernel, but a definite answer as to whether it will impact applications. I forgot about this before - the main reason they defaulted to 32 bit kernel for a while was because 64 bit kernel requires 64 bit drivers. So if you had a mac and a firew...

Re: DP 8 HAS BEEN RELEASED

That all sounds very authoritative and technically sound - except - it doesn't explain why you even have the option of booting in 64 bit or why some apps will not run in 64 bit unless you're booted in that mode. I don't know why apple did separate 32 and 64 bit kernels, it was probably a dumb move ...

Re: DP 8 HAS BEEN RELEASED

The kernel is just one part of OSX, and it has nothing to do with running apps in 64 bit. Any mac that has a 64 bit cpu chip will run OSX in 64 bit. Some earlier macs can only run the kernel in 32 bit, but the rest of the OS is 64 bit, and 64 bit apps can be run and use as much memory as the machine...
