Re: Ghost writing!
An offline discussion just prompted this little addendum: Shared cue sheet credit is of course wholly appropriate if the ghost composer wrote the cue, but used the themes and general musical language developed for the film by the main composer. That's a shared contribution, and is therefore entirely...

Re: Ghost writing!
There are a number of very fair composers out there. Cliff Martinez comes to mind - crediting his co-writers cost him an Oscar nom. To me the minimum would be cue sheet credit commensurate with your contribution (so if you wrote the whole thing, you get all the writer's) , and if at all possible, an...

Re: Great Article on Digital Audio, Hearing and Perception
PS: My mastering engineer played me a few tracks from a DSD project, and I wish he hadn't. That is so superior to PCM that it's scary, and a little bit sad. Heard the two side-by-side using the same material, and it's just sad how inferior PCM audio is. Wonder why we aren't using that, at least as a...

Re: Great Article on Digital Audio, Hearing and Perception
Just got back my album from mastering - asked for two copies. One is the original resolution of 24bit 88.2kHz in which it was mastered (my mixes were upsampled fro 24-44.1 to that before the mastering), the other are the 16-44.1 versions for CD. Both are identical in their treatment, except of cours...

Re: Has the dust cleared on Mavericks at this point
Personally I stay on old OS until version .3 comes around. Since this is 10.9.1, wanna bet all of the above will be resolved by 10.9.3...?

Re: Sibelius is back
After pouring buckets of cash into Finale updates for years I finally switched to Sibelius last year (or the year before?) and couldn't believe it took me so long... To each their own, but for me Sibelius is by far the more musical, intuitive solution. Glad to see it's development continued. Just a ...

Re: Slate Digital VIRTUAL MICROPHONE SYSTEM
Don't think anyone expects this to be interesting to someone with a deep mic locker, a classic desk and two vintage outboard pres. Me on the other hand, I don't have a bunch of classic mics and pres around. Just like I don't have any desks or tape machines around. So I couldn't tell you how "cl...

Please tell me Steven Slate is Keanu Reeve's long lost cousin...
Have to say this VMS looks mighty interesting to me. So far every Slate Digital product has been an ear-opener.

Re: worth transferring 16 bit tracks to do 24 bit mix
One quick clarification, as I re-read one of Eric's posts above: I never use bounce, I always print. So, if you can indeed bounce to a 24bit target file from within a 16bit project (wouldn't know since I never use bounce...) , *and* if you only have 16bit source files, *and* if you indeed do nothing...

Re: worth transferring 16 bit tracks to do 24 bit mix
Didn't lose me. Just came back from Sundance. Yes internal processing is 32bit float, which is essentially 24bit fixed with 8 extra bits for near infinite headroom. If you don't do *anything at all* to the sound, if you just drag a single file and bounce that single file at unity gain (who the hell ...

Re: NI Reactor - I may never have time to learn it
What he said. There are really *two* Reaktors, so to speak: • The insanely powerful modular language to roll your own. • The framework within which you can run tens of thousands of custom-built instruments, effects etc. Most of us use the latter. For all the reasons you list. But I'd keep it, some o...
