Re: New Macbook Pro

In all fairness to hardware engineering the above temp test on the Retina display i7 MBP was at a hotel and streaming a 'HULU' movie to boot. We all know how hotels love free HD movies over their access point. Actually it says a lot that this machine can de-encrypted the TCP data (AES) and perform c...

Re: Mountain Lion features list -- what's in it for us?

Have you read how Spaces (Mission Control) is broken? "Cupertino, this is Houston can you read me?"

Powersleep? Yeah right. Allow Quicktime, iTunes, or the OS to update automatically, a no fingers swipe?

Re: New Macbook Pro

Agreed. MBP Retina --- > 105 oF playing back fullscreen HD. http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/apple-macbook-pro-with-retina-display.aspx The sleep issue with Firewire is a bus mastered issue (on the puter side). I can't imagine not sleeping, thankfully you can monitor with phones on the Apple ...

Re: New Macbook Pro

+1 But the jury is still out re graphics as of Monday. http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/macbook-kepler-blurrycam/ Interesting that the new Motu Track 16 has a Firewire 400 labeled port on a Firewire 800 connector. Hopefully this means that the compatibility issues are solved. I've labored under th...

Re: New Product: MOTU Track 16

There must be some glitch in Firewire 800 for audio. Hopefully SIIG will release a TB expansion box with this chipset, unlike Belkin's revamped unit. http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/05/belkin-thunderbolt-express-dock/ What about a Firewire 800 drive mid stream in this workaround from Avid? Full band...

Re: New Product: MOTU Track 16

USB-3 (hopefully) solves this conundrum:

With this:

p.s. Maybe I answered my own question. Compatibility. WWDCees - not the pre-game whiff either. Ha.

Re: New Product: MOTU Track 16

Firewire like SCSI, the turtle sets the pace.

Interesting timing on this release?

Conference attendees may get a good whiff of AT&T Park.

Enjoy.

Re: New Product: MOTU Track 16

BBC where else? Actually I recall shipping out on the '59 Imperial oil tanker. During an emergency downshift you'd change AM stations and then crash. This little Motu 16 has a scope. If the brick wall filters allow for an increased frequency response, as I'd imagine, then one could actually use it f...

Re: New Product: MOTU Track 16

Is there a breakout box? Wow. An oscilloscope onboard. Very useful to a guitar tech. Peterson Strobes display the partials which are so often out-of-tune. I hope MOTU can offer more tuning options for guitar bands. But this looks great I'm not complaining. Funny when Chrysler introduced their push b...

Re: New Macbook Pro

That's the program. Funny I was unable to turn off sync logging which was running threads. Maybe that's a firewall for Bluetooth? I force quit dock to shut down widgets and then force quit MDS (spotlight). It shouldn't be on as all the disks are dragged into privacy window. Official untethered. Buil...

Re: New Macbook Pro

You mean to empty trash that won't empty?

BTW the plan to bypass rack mounted hardware was not well thought out.

Kind of rains on your inspiration parade. The '08 DAC could be improved. Wonder if LION has a similar problem with cache?

Re: New Macbook Pro

Alas. Not enough real estate for more real estate. Texas Instruments blurb on Firewire 400 6 pin? I had read something earlier about powering down. So you must plug straight in and not angle it? I don't have anything that is buss powered. Too bad power can't be turned off. I wonder if the Traveler M...

Re: New Macbook Pro

These acronyms are beyond nuts. MAID (Multiple Array of Idle Disks?) This is what replaced SPAN http://www.greyhole.net/ Thing I like most about eSATA are the connectors. Firewire 400 is a tad flaky. Also Sonnet makes two Express Cards (one that's SATA III w/ R, the other SATA II). I chose the non-r...

Re: New Macbook Pro

...thought independent was the same as JBOD. Sorry about that. I'm using a Sonnet Express 34 'Dual' eSATA card (port multiplier) and Silicon Images driver (from Sonnet). The Mercury Elite Al-Pro dual I use is actually cheaper as it was sold w/ no chipset or enclosed drives... that will mount only on...
