I wasn't sure if the OP was looking outside of DP for a plugin, but +1 for the NI. Also Waves H-Comp and the very versatile C1 do the trick as well. C1 is very versatile.

While I have limited knowledge of side chain compression and/or ducking, I don't believe the MW Compressor has a side chain input.

The included "Dynamics" in DP does have a an input drop down menu that you can feed the output from a bus to.

There are definitely alternatives to gluing the foam directly to the wall. Got the Metal Foundry SDX from Sweetwater.They sent me a box containing the install discs for every Toontrack product. I guess that's how they're doing it now. Pretty cool. So instead of waiting for shipping, you can just purchase the serial number.

I have this issue when I open a project made on my iMac with a different interface than on my MacBook pro. Have you tried going into Applications|Utilities|Audio MIDI Setup? Make sure the M-Audio is being recognized as a device.
