Re: MK828II HELP!

Also be sure that the Motu 828 is selected in your program as well. I dont use audacity on my mac, but on my PC it seems to always default to whatever built in audio I have on my pc/laptop. So I have to click on the output and input boxes in Audacity to hear/record. Ditto on using the front panel mi...

Re: Mac Mini for portable recording?

I use a Mac Mini and Logic 8 with my Motu 828MKII. Its an older mini with the ddr2 667 ram. Running a C2D 1.6 ghz? IIRC. It works just fine as long as you record to an external drive. The internal 5400 rpm drive will have problems with multiple sources. My last remix project was 34 channels, so its ...

Re: Replacing my Lacie Biggest s2s rack of drives - advice..

Get anything except La Cie. In the production environments I have used them they are notorious for failing badly. La Cie are made to look nice with a mac, not perform well or be robust. I like Seagate and Hitachi drives in most uses. The WD raptor series is nice, but kinda pricey. They are also kind...

Re: Preliminary Review of Traveler MKIII

i had always wondered about those Motu driver packages. The very large size of the package. The "universal driver" for all of their USB and firewire products. Not so crazy when it was just the 828 and 896. But there are at least a dozen prosucts now if you count the MKI's and MKII's that u...

Re: MOTU 828mk2 Firewire does not detect

make sure that windows firewall is not blocking the 1394 port, its on by default. Also disable "1394 network adapter" if there is one in your hardware profile. That worked for me when I had a similar problem once. Also, on my old 828mkii (with the bad display) my PC seemed to like one of t...

are those the actual specs of the HD 192? How can the dynamic range be bigger than the THD+N? I was under the impression that dynamic range is the same as the difference bewtween your noise floor and your peak operating level without distortion. If your thd+n is -106db than that would also be your d...

i know this is an old thread, just thought I'd chime in here. I have an 828MKII. It never caught fire or started smoking. But the display did go dead about 5 months after I bought it. I contacted Motu about this and apparently most of the early 828s had faulty displays. I was told I could ship it to...

HP and dell make great servers, and their corporate desktops are ok. Their consumer desktops are junk. Plenty of motherboards have perfectly fine onboard firewire. Gigabyte uses almost exclusively TI chips for theirs. The Asus MVP I have been using also is TI equipped. I have had nothing but bad luc...

Re: IRQ's

I recently did this to all the laptops in the store when I was at the Sony Style store in San Francisco. One of the sales guys asked me what the hell I was doind as if I was messing the computers up! I guess Sonay doesnt want consumers to know they have 6-7 devices sitting on a single IRQ in their ...

btw the part where it says "VEN_1180&" gives the vendor id as 1180. You can google that kind of stuff. But then you have to dig thru a lot of unhelpful websites to find teh one that actually has a list of PCI vendor ids. Anyway thats what I did. It appears that Ricoh is so new to 1394 ...
