Re: 828 MKII USB,pops,squeals WORKAROUND-READ ENTIRE THREAD!
QUESTION. Does anyone know if there are PC systems running MOTU 828MKii which do not exhibit these bugs? *waves* I run (frequently) a variety of combinations of 828MkIIUSB, 828MkIIFirewire (with a dead backlight), 2x 8PREs and an old 896MkII simultaneously on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop, on Windows...

Re: Help with 24i please!
Sounds to me like the 24i is the issue... I'd be having words with the friend to get him to exhibit it functioning on a known working system, or start beating him round the head with it.

How is it being powered? Own mains cable, or power-over-firewire?

Re: please help!! to do with the ultralte mk3
Should work fine for this purpose. Cuemix allows realtime monitoring of audio inputs... and even without using cuemix, latency is only 6 > 12ms which is unnoticeable for all intents and purposes.

Generally, yes. The Audio Latency is usually between 8 and 11ms, so unnoticeable for all intents and purposes.

Re: Windows 7 or vista..?
Windows 7, easily. Read reviews on Win7 and you'll find most of them refer to it as "Vista done right". Certainly runs far faster and more stable on my laptop than Vista ever did.

Re: connect 2408 to 896hd ?
Nope. Doesn't work on it's own without the PCI card iirc. The rack is just a bunch of converters. The PCI card provides the means to control those converters.

First port of call should be to look at the simplest option... buy a new cable.

Re: Issues w/3.6.8.x drivers and XP Pro/Ableton Live/OS
MOTU don't have official representation here or an obligation to do so... the forum is run voluntarily by a user of their equipment, who also happens to provide the majority of their (useful) unofficial support via this site. If you want their stance, you'd have to ask them via their official suppor...

Re: Can I run two Firewire interfaces simultaneously?
plug the 896 in, daisychain an 8pre to it by firewire. Run the 828 & the other 8pre into the 896 by optical... and the onyx into the firewire'd 8pre by optical. should work... but I'm presently drunk, so I could be wrong.

Yep, am aware of that thread - I posted the SP1 firewire stack downgrade fix to the web back in 2004 when we got ridiculous pops and squeals with a single unit once SP2 was released( HERE & HERE << formerly xtremeresources.com . MOTU Tech Support used to give the link out to my Unicornation post...

Re: Monitoring issues with 828 MK3
You're getting the monitor signal duplicated... you'll be hearing CueMix's monitor output, and also the monitor-output from your audio app (with a slight delay)
Ditch the cuemix output and the problem should go away.

Re: 828 MkII ins to their own outs
I'd investigate the mixer... see if it has direct or split outs, and if so go to the mixer first and come out of that to the MOTU - if anything goes drastic with the MOTU or the Mac it's attached to then it'll interfere with what comes out of the PA... Which matters more, the recording, or the gig? ...
