Re: DP7, Motif XS8, mLAN?
Hmm. So I'm guessing you have 1 or more MIDI tracks with data, and you want to "play" these tracks into the XS over MIDI, while "recording" the resulting audio onto audio tracks? (all over mLAN)? This definitely works. In fact, the XS has 16 audio outputs, so you can run 8 stereo...

Re: DP7, Motif XS8, mLAN?
Hi, I have a completely functional Motif XS8 setup with DP7. The Motif is connected to my mac with firewire, and I can both send and receive MIDI as well as audio over the FW cable no problem. The Motif appears in DP as a MIDI device with 16 channels I/O, and also as an audio interface with 16 chann...

Re: DP & measuring decibels - a totally inane question
That's great advice, Shooshie. A reference track in DP will definitely help put everything in perspective, regardless of your setup. It's really a shame that the recording industry has pushed "loud" so hard. I guess maybe it started with the ability to over-drive (saturate) tape. Then digi...

Re: DP & measuring decibels - a totally inane question
Well, decibels is a relative scale. In digital audio, we usually use 0db to represent the maximum amplitude (loudest, full-scale) sound possible a digital system. Then we count down in negative numbers from there. So -6dB is half of the maximum, -12dB is half of that (1/4), -18db is half again (1/16...

Re: DP, Logic, VI's and latency
Oh my. Maybe we should start a DP Cocoa debunking thread. I can tell you, as a programmer and a registered Apple developer, that Cocoa is NOT the be-all-end-all answer to man and machine. FACT: DP is written almost entirely in C++. This is not a bad thing. This is a VERY GOOD thing. It has allowed D...

Re: Pitch problem importing DP6 project into DP7
Well, :D Some good news on further investigation. It seems that my pitch changes are all intact after all, only the pitch segmentation is messed up. (This only affects the appearance of the pitch bars, not the thin red line that actually affects the pitch.) So I just had to go back, adjust pitch seg...

Pitch problem importing DP6 project into DP7 [Resolved]
 Hey, Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, if it is really a bug, or am I just crazy? I have a DP 6.02 project with lots of sequences, lots or tracks, and LOTS of small hand-tuned pitch corrections on audio tracks. Well I recently upgraded to DP 7.01 (love it btw), but when I o...

Re: Automating Leveler Saved State on V-Rack
Ok,
So this means I have to put an instance of the leveler in every one of my sequences? (instead of the v-rack?)
Or is there an easier way?

Automating Leveler Saved State on V-Rack
Hi, I read the section in the tips sheet about using Saved States in the MW Leveler. This really makes it a lot easier to get the results you want when using bounce to disk. Question: How can I get the leveler to "load" a saved state (say in the middle of a song, right before the vocal sta...

Re: Possible CD Burning Fix
Well the bug was obvious, but the fix eluded me for a while. I also saw a number of threads on this forum where people were discussing this solution... no fixes there that I saw. Funny how the simplest fixes are sometimes the easiest to miss. I see the tips and tricks sticky... How about a "fix...

Bit depth, or fixed-point vs. floating-point has virtually nothing to do with the sample rate, clock jitter, or anything that happens "between clocks"...

Re: 32 bit FP vs 24 bit ?
I think many of us are making very similar points. It is true that 32-bit fp can lose precision. The least significant bit especially can be considered disposable; the computer cannot round it accurately because there are no less-significant bits to determine which way to round. So yes, I agree that...

Re: 32 bit FP vs 24 bit ?
It's all about dynamic range. (the difference between the quietest and loudest portions of your recording) 8-bit audio gives you 48dB of dynamic range. (yuck) 16-bit is 96dB. This is decent for your final master, and is what you get with standard CD audio. 24-bit (fixed-point) gives you 144dB. This ...
