Re: AudioMIDI Setup won't remember settings (warning: *ancient* Mac OS and DP version ahead!)
@mikehalloran thanks again for the tip: I replaced the CR2032 battery in my MIDI Express XT-USB and now all the connections in my Audio MIDI Setup seem to be retained from session to session! Whoo-hoo!

Re: AudioMIDI Setup won't remember settings (warning: *ancient* Mac OS and DP version ahead!)
MOTU made more than one XT. Although the current units do not use a settings battery, older ones use a CR2032 battery to maintain settings. ...[snip]... It’s a good idea to replace them every 7 years or so. Ah, good intel, thanks! I'll check my MIDI Express XT to see if it has a battery. If it does...

AudioMIDI Setup won't remember settings (warning: *ancient* Mac OS and DP version ahead!) - RESOLVED
(I briefly considered piggybacking this question on the macOS & 2 X Motu MIDI XT's - Odd Behaviour thread because it seems like some of my symptoms may be similar...but I suspect it's a unique enough situation that I didn't want to detract from the OP's hunt in that thread) I haven't updated my ...

Re: Yikes! I need to replicate a disco/funk was-wah rhythm guitar for a theater cue
Unpopular opinion amongst the DIY crowd, but, after years of agonizingly/painstakingly tweaking samples and MIDI instruments to replicate real instruments, my current tactic is: Find someone who actually plays that instrument. Pay them. Get it done in 1/4 the time, and most likely have it sound bett...

...except when "affect" is a noun.James Steele wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:20 amThink of “effect” as a noun. It is the “result” of something. “Her words had a strange effect on me.”
“Affect” is more of an action. “Her words might affect me strangely.”

Re: I could care less.
When people use "Begs the question" to mean "raises the question". I wonder if I'll ever get used to that. Begs/begging the question has a very specific meaning about circular reasoning. In Daniel C. Dennett's book From Bacteria To Bach And Back (written in 2017) -- a book essen...

Re: Dorico Rant
Are there actually people who can do computer based notation at even one fourth the speed of handwritten? I don't think absolute speed is the only consideration. I was always willing to accept the slight speed penalty to using notation softare because the output was infinitely more legible than any...

Re: Dorico Rant
This is painful. Finale, why have you forsaken me??? Every notation software eventually forsakes the end user. Mark my words, in 20 years -- or less (fewer?) -- Dorico will pull the plug and all the Dorico power users will be ranting and wailing and gnashing their teeth, "WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN...

Re: Looking for an acoustic archtop VI
LOL! I entered this thread thinking that by "VI" OP meant Roman Numerals and was referring to a six-string bass guitar tuned EADGBE ...aka the old "Fender Bass VI"

Re: Building an External Music Studio Building
If acoustic isolation ("soundproofing") is important in either direction (to acoustically protect the neighbors from you or vice-versa) walls will need to be substantial AND the need for low-frequency absorption inside the structure will be increased, meaning your structure's footprint wi...

Re: Compressors?
I'm still old-school: I have a hardware compressor -- or two, in series, sometimes -- in between the mic pre and the A/D converter. But when I do use a plug-in for VO compression
...it's usually ^^^this.

Ooh, good idea, thanks! I'll let y'all know if that succeeds.mikehalloran wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 12:16 pmStart by opening those mp3s in QuickTime to see if you can do so without an iTunes error. If you can, then export to .wav or .aif and see if those will drop in. You are expanding a compressed file without making DP do the conversion.

MacOS error: Unexpected error (-2009)
Anyone ever encounter this alert when trying to import an audio file into the Soundbites window of a project? " Digital Performer has encountered an error MacOS error: Unexpected error (-2009) " It's happened to me with three or four different audio files, all MP3s that I ripped from youtu...

We always just attached the pencil to the body of the mic with blue painter's tape.
