Ultralite Inputs 1&2 Gain/Trim Zero, but still hearing sound

I’d like to understand if my MOTU Ultralite (1st gen) is working properly. What I’m noticing occurs both when connected to the computer and as a stand alone mixer When using the 1&2 Inputs (mic/instr), I’m getting a signal even though gain/trim knobs are at zero. I went into the mixer settings; ...

Re: Change Sequence in Sequence or Project Menu?

Bayswater, Thanks for the heads-up upon on the position bar. Yes, that's what I meant and I'll begin educating myself on the alternative. For the Sequence Editor. I understand what you're saying, and this is my issue. From either the mini menus or even Chunks (while in the Sequence Edit window), i c...

Change Sequence in Sequence or Project Menu?

Hi, Two issues i'm having which I'm unable to find the answer to, easily. Hope you can help or link me up to an existing posting. I went from DP 5 to 7. And in what was occurring DP5 carried forward to DP7. It might be how things work by design and I'd like to know if it's something I can do to cont...

Re: Ultralite to Macmini FW & DP5 with Lion and Downgrade Op

Thank you all for your replies. Good news I've decided to move forward with Lion, upgraded and installed DP7, and for the FireWire cable - finally found additional confirmation about the FW cable on MOTU's site, in addition to what you posted. And yes, I would use the AC power adapter for the unit, ...

Ultralite to Macmini FW & DP5 with Lion and Downgrade Option

I was forced into an upgrade for a new machine with 10.7 Lion 1. Can my 1st gen Ultralight (firewire only), connect to my Mac mini (Mid 2011), which has a mini firewire port? I've seen some post suggesting a special cable for the purpose but nothing definitive about it working. 2. Will my DP 5.x ver...

Re: Dynamics Plugin Question

Daniel,

Thanks for clarifying. Since this is the case, I would ‘insert’ the plugin again if I wanted to use another one of the three remaining effects? Not that I need to, in this case. Just asking to understand the usefulness of this plugin better :)

Thanks also for the ratio tip.

Dynamics Plugin Question

A 2 Part Question about the Dynamics Plugin. I'm trying to understand it better 1. As you know, it has four functions. Compressor, Limiter, Expander, Gate. Do these work individually, or simultaneously? I'd prefer to use the Compressor only, or Limiter only, not both. But, it sounds as though it's c...

Re: One Mix setting for Multiple Sequences?

Zaratero, Yes, given that I am at the rough-mix stage, I had some more time to think about a solution and came to the same conclusion. It's a good one because by the time I try and look for an alternative, what you're suggesting is a cleaner way to go. Thanks, and I'm glad I checked in. I just wante...

Re: One Mix setting for Multiple Sequences?

Fmiguelez Thanks. Yes, agreed. Using templates can especially be ideal to start out with the same settings. In my case the songs/sequences are already created. I seriously doubt one song's mix settings will work on all, even if the instrumentation and style is the same This too is a great point and ...

One Mix setting for Multiple Sequences?

This question pertains to Audio editing.. not MIDI Is there a way to have one global mix settings for bounce to disk (including pan and effects), for multiple sequences? I have 10 sequences (i.e. 10 songs). And fortunately, because I used the same guitar and microphone the overall quality of recordi...

Re: Motu Ultralite Display Brightness

Good for you. Especially if the unit is out of warranty. It's great to know the part numbers. For me, I was able to get mine repaired by MOTU quickly. It was under Warranty.

Still using my MOTU, love it. And who knows.. i may have to replace my own display some day.

Re: MIDI Virtual Instrument Recommendation

A follow up to my efforts with trying to sync Garage Band and Digital Performer. It's now working and not only am I able to play and record to DP, but I can specify the Soundflower Input in POLAR. This is an added bonus for me. Previously I mentioned i didn't see an input named "Input Stream #1...

Re: MIDI Virtual Instrument Recommendation

Hey, thanks. Yes, these are the same instructions I found in this forum too. Unfortunately, i'm unable to get passed the following step, in those instructions: "Create an aux or stereo audio track. Assign its input to "Input Stream #1 1-2", and its output to the stereo output you moni...

Re: MIDI Virtual Instrument Recommendation

I want to thank all of you for your excellent suggestions. For a basic request, you guys volunteer so much information. THANK YOU. I've had some time to investigate some of your suggestions. To be honest, It's not my intention to become a MIDI expert overnight, and so, I'm less inclined to let anyth...

Re: MIDI Virtual Instrument Recommendation

Maybe I’m not describing what I’m looking for clearly, I’m sorry – lol. I did see what you’re referring to in the Add Instrument Track section, for my MIDI. However, I guess what I’m expecting to see are more specific virtual instrument listings for say; Keyboard, Bass, Drum Kits, etc. What you’re r...
