I think he's talking about an app for one of those ancient boxes that recorded four tracks or something of 16-bit audio in a separate unit controlled by a Mac (back in System 8 days or even 7). Yamaha had a box like this too. At least that's my guess. This is Jurassic era in terms of computer audio...
