828/2 sounding like a distortion pedal!
Hi Guys Problem gone away now, but a minute ago my MOTU 828mkII was applying a HPF from about 500Hz and a Boss DS-1 style distortion to everything coming out of it. Didn't happen from startup, it just started happening when it wasn't in use, then when I started playing stuff back through it, it star...

Re: 8 channel preamp advice needed
focusrite 'platinum' gear.... indeed its a bit below $2k but Focusrite's Octopre ain't half bad! I like it! You could probably buy 4 Twintrack Pros... I like them a lot. went to a studio recently with ISAs, Avalon, Neve... all sorts. The TTPros stood up well next to them, and are really great for ma...

Re: Proper Interface Clocking
the MOTU manual reckons you can run 2 devices using the internal clock. it reckons once you get onto 3 you should run off an external clock. as somebody said above the BLA clock is pretty good. as is the Aadvark Aadclock. and then up the top end you get things like the Apogee big ben. though Prism s...

Re: Word Clock thru BNC
At the moment, I have an 828MkII and a Digimax LT. I'm hoping to replace the Digimax with an 8Pre. Also in the chain is an Ultralite MkIII. I'm hoping I can send word clock to that via SPDIF at the same time. Neither the 8pre nor the UltraLite mk3 have word click I/O. You can synchronize them to th...

Re: Word Clock thru BNC
not to mention jitter. longer cable runs always encounter more jitter.
what devices are you clocking together? you should run the clock master from the weakest source.

it's a dual-channel, valve mic pre-amp-cross-DI box made by a wonderful English recording studio.

get yourself a rack shelf with the securing bar across the middle. it'll sit nice and tightly in the middle.

Re: External HD recommendations....
Ive heard a lot of horror stories about Lacie drives. I have a G-Tech G-Drive 500GB, it's great because it makes very little noise (its fanless). It's quite new but not had any issues, and it looks great sat next to the macs. A lot of people reckon 1TB drives start to get ineffective when they head ...

behringer (as horrible as they are) do rackmount DI boxes for pretty cheap (compared to buying lots of DI boxes). they're not too bad either.

the ridge farm "gas cooker" is awesome, but I don't know what availability is like in the USA.
KT make a wonderfully accurate DI box.
and Ampeg's SVT-DI is a nice valve driven DI.
