Re: Do's ans Don't's for a Crash free DP
During the recent mixing sessions I just started, I also remembered this: clear out unnecessary points along your volume and pan timelines on your soundbites. Many, many times, when doing a pan or volume adjustment, DP will leave a whole lot of points along your path; if they're not really necessary...

Re: Do's ans Don't's for a Crash free DP
I haven't the time to read through the entire thread, at this point, so pardon if this has been covered before. This is really more of adjusting your approach to engineering, than it is setting up and maintaining the balance between your computer and DP. Most here probably know this, so forgive if t...

Re: FIREWIRE - AUDIOWIRE same thing or not
If you have a Best Buy or MicroCenter around, better to try them. I have very little idea where RS gets their stuff, these days. Wherever you get it, make sure it's fairly flexible; I've had an occasional issue with one that's encased in a stiffer jacket, where it really liked pushing itself to one ...

Re: FIREWIRE - AUDIOWIRE same thing or not
ECHOHAUS are you serious, I tried a standard FIREWIRE cable, (rephrase that) I used a FIREWIRE cable from my external HD case. It may have been only 5ft or so compared to what "INPUTOUTPUT" says of a 15" or 50 feet, I've neeeeeeeee-ver knew that Yes, I'm totally serious. I'm having a...

Re: FIREWIRE - AUDIOWIRE same thing or not
I've been using a standard Firewire cable for two 2408MKII's for the past two weeks at a recording session, and have had zero problems. Just get a Firewire cable and be done with it.

Re: FIREWIRE - AUDIOWIRE same thing or not
The cable is the same. The protocol is not. Do not plug an Audiowire and FIrewire port together on the same cable.

Re: Anyone know anything about ADC Patchbays?
Well... I wasn't able to move them at $100 apiece; if you do move yours at a respectable price, send me the name of the buyer.

Re: Anyone know anything about ADC Patchbays?
I've got two very similar units--acquired in similar fashion--and I've been trying to move them for a few years, now. I'm not asking nearly the amount you're thinking of, either.

Re: What is Spring Reverb for?
Sorry, but I think the only thing a spring reverb is good for is making a recorded guitar sound exponentially more difficult to mix well.

Yes. I use Caig DeOxit on everything--jacks, faders, pots--and it's marvelous. Do not use too much... a little goes a long way.

Re: How Do I know if Need a power conditionner?
I personally think a power conditioner is always needed. AC is just dirty and spiky, everywhere. For starters, I'd look hard at the quality of the USB cables you're using; perhaps the brand you have isn't very well shielded. Next, look at your gear, and how it's situated... do you have power lines n...

Re: completely new to a Mac... need help.
it's a 466mhz PowerPc G4 running OS X Version 10.4.11 Frankly, I'm surprised it's running 10.4.11. I didn't think the OS would work on that old of a processor. and for another, i'm not new to audio recording on a computer, I wouldn't know this, now, would I? You asked for Mac help, I gave it. I hav...

Re: completely new to a Mac... need help.
First of all, go to the little apple in the upper left hand corner, click on it to get a drop down menu, and select "About this Mac"; a window will pop up telling you what OSX version you're using. On the Quicksilver, I'd say you probably shouldn't go any higher than Panther, version 10.3....
