As for piano, I've been salivating over Akoustic Piano by NI for a while. There were a few reviews and double-blind tests, and for the most part, it seems that Akoustic tends to get higher marks than Ivory, is cheaper, and I think it offers one more piano. There was a huge post about this a while ba...

Maybe not a bad idea, actually I saw it at Barnes & Nobel the other day, maybe I'll check it out. I've actually been doing various recording for years, and my degree is in electro-acoustic composition and production. But some times, I would just like to review the basics. Both sound like good bo...

Seeing as though you'll probably want to upgrade to an Intel before too long (I don't even know if DP6 is PowerPC compatable, but DP7 certainly won't be), I wouldn't throw too much money at the G5 unless you haveto. I guess it depends upon what you're doing. Last week, I hooked my TiBook 867 (768MB ...

Good books on audio recording...

I've been scouring the 'Nation and the 'Net for good suggestions on books for interesting recording techniques. I'm currently working with my drummer to get a nice drum sound, and will shortly be working with my guitarist as well... as well as myself for vocals. And it would be nice to have a good h...

Switching articulations on a MIDI channel is not something you're going to find in the top instrument libraries. We're talking about fairly heafty sample libraries. Switching into a new sound will take a second or two, even on the most robust computers, meaning it's pretty much out of the question, ...

So, what's the chances that DP6 will be written...

DP VI

Roman Numerals seem to be "in" these days, so I give it at least a "possible" chance.

I just got a MOTU 8pre, and I LOVE it. It's $525 at B&H. Seeing as though it's hard to find any firewire audio interface for under $300, that's a pretty good deal. But yeah, if you REALLY don't need more than a couple preamps, I've heard good on the DUET.

Good choice. Just keep in mind that it won't work off the bat, you'll have to do a bit of futsing around to get it registered, but we can help you with that.

Crap... I was afraid of that. Yeah, it's not bad in Kontakt, but then again, it's Kontakt... over 200 instruments or something, combined with the fear of losing or unlinking all of the instruments and having to reinstall. No way man, I'm not going to manually program CC11 for all those. Seems like I...

Yes, but now I just have to figure out how to get all the rest of my NI patches to respond to CC 11, which is what I like using best. EWQLSO uses CC 11 by default, but NI didn't seem to take that same route.

Thanks Frodo, I'm not very familliar with european orchestral seating. It looks like it favors larger stereo separation of related sections. Could be interesting, could post some serious problems too. Anyway, I agree, EWQLSO doesn't need much twiddle. Actually, a symphony orchestra is currently prac...

Sorry for the double post but... I just talked with Alesis tech support, and they had a copy of SoundBridge 3 sitting around, and they're just going to mail it to me. I'm not possitive my laptop still has OS 9 on it, but I believe so. If not, I'm pretty much screwed, but if so, I should have a shot ...

Erik Norlander? That's crazy... I have quite a few albums with him on it. He used to play keyboards for Arjen Luccessen, and Lana is on quite a few of their albums too. I wouldn't say I'm a crazed fan, but it's just a name from the past that I'm just surprised to be hearing brought up in this contex...

Re: MOTU Said I Can't Use EastWest in DP5?!?!?

1) EastWest Orchestra DOES NOT CURRENTLY WORK on ANY INTEL MACINTOSH under any sequencer. EastWest is planning to release an update for intel mac. I believe it will be around 99.00 to upgrade. $99??? Last I heard it was between $30 - $50! That's bullsh••. They're just going to drive everyone into b...

You really shouldn't have to pan EWQLSO at all. Its stereo field mimics that of a standard symphony orchestra. Now, if you want to do odd things, or if you have a smaller ensemble like a string quartet, you can always pan the individual patches themselves. but you shouldn't have to do that on a regu...
