I just got a MOTU 8pre, and I LOVE it. It's $525 at B&H. Seeing as though it's hard to find any firewire audio interface for under $300, that's a pretty good deal. But yeah, if you REALLY don't need more than a couple preamps, I've heard good on the DUET.

Yes, but now I just have to figure out how to get all the rest of my NI patches to respond to CC 11, which is what I like using best. EWQLSO uses CC 11 by default, but NI didn't seem to take that same route.

You really shouldn't have to pan EWQLSO at all. Its stereo field mimics that of a standard symphony orchestra. Now, if you want to do odd things, or if you have a smaller ensemble like a string quartet, you can always pan the individual patches themselves. but you shouldn't have to do that on a regu...
