I figured it out. I just had to install the PCI drivers and consoles, then choose the PCI card as the Audio Engine option in Sibelius (Play>Playback Devices).

I just bought a PCI-424e card from MOTU. I installed it today. My Intel Mac recognizes it.

I would like to route digital audio from Sibelius to the card and the 2408mkII that's connected to it so that the 2408 can send analog to my stereo system. How do I do that?

In spite of the disappointing news, I'm glad I read this thread. I'll be upgrading soon to a Mac Pro. I assumed I would also be buying a 2408 mkIII, but not until this issue is resolved.
