I manually edited the registry as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 , no luck. I ran the patch in that KB, now I am able to install the whole driver and have the MOTU software recognize the 8pre. Too bad it totally locks up the PC 1 minute later, and won't boot without removing the FW card.

What firewire card do you use? Is it expresscard? I just bought an 8pre with a SIIG expresscard (TI chipset) and it doesn't work.
