Re: Dangerous 2 bus
Sometimes it's enough to mix "like" signals together. I prefer to mix the drums on 2 channels, bass on 2 (sometimes on one and hitting the mono button) the vocals on another,2 percussive keys and guitars on another2, synthy pads on another 2 and so on. The width of the stereo field is fant...

Re: Millenia HV-3B/Motu 828 MKII issue
Please don't blame the mic pre. I have a rack of HV/3s and I have an extremely difficult time trying to get them to clip. Could it As someone trying to record classical, I would shy away from hitting the trim knob. I try to get the performers to hit the hard notes during practice so that I can back ...

Re: Dangerous 2 bus
I use it for some mixes and not others. For me it beats not having a large mixing desk. I'ts because I'm lazy really. Sometimes it needs to literally get out the door and a bounce to can save time. Sometimes the weirdness of how the computer mixes it works for me too and I prefer it. I like a littl...

Re: Reverb units
TC Electronic M3000. Great little piece. I know there's a new one out there, but you can't beat it. Maybe find one used?
I know another person who uses this one for scoring for TV.

Re: Ribbon mic
I second that attention to positioning. I have a Royer 121 and I used it quite recently up around the fretboard on an acoustic guitar along with a U87 somewhere along the f holes. Nice (here comes that cliche of a word) 'warm' sound. balances the U87 somewhat.

Re: Dangerous 2 bus
Hey, I go both ways on the D2b. I have one. I use it for some mixes and not others. For me it beats not having a large mixing desk. The mixes tend to have better width and panning placement than mixes bounced to disk. It's basically a mixer without volume control, panning control (you mix stereo to ...

Despite the profit claims, I still ike the Audio Technica 4047.
SM57 sounds good on some voices. buy a pop filter or make one from a coat hanger and some pantyhose. Why not try them out?

Re: XLR to TRS Snakes
I would run your preamp ins to an XLR mic panel and your Mic preamp outs to a patchbay. That way you can plug your mics in and still be able to patch your compressors, eqs and whatnot between the preamp stage and the recorder. This is how I do it. It works well, whether you have a separate room or n...

Re: Possible easter egg in 4.52?
That's why I said possible. I didn't make this up. I don't have that much time in my day (especially sundays).
Just very odd. If my marker for a guitar track is an article on Condoleeza Rice, does that mean I should keep or ditch my tracK? Is this another deck of Eno's cards?

Re: How are YOU using chunks?
I bring a band or a singer in and record them in one chunk. When I record the next song, I copy the chunk, (copy and paste in the chunk window) erase the soundbites and then I record again. Same microphone set-up. Same song or different songs. Saves loads of time. There are variations on the theme. ...

Re: Having trouble with unzipping an archive in tiger
The answer is...
Reformat the drive and make it Mac always. The FAT-32 file system does nothing but corrupt mac-made zip files names and wreak havoc with your file names.
And, the drive is zippier too.

Re: Having trouble with unzipping an archive in tiger
I tried the stuffit route. Although upgrading was a good idea, I think I am dealing with a corrupt archive. i think the key again is to re-format my firewire drive to Mac OS instead of FAT-32, which can't handle all sorts of things, including long file names. Thank you all for trying to help. <small...
