Re: what to do with my DP5 and DP6 Manuals?

I'm a mere novice with just two previous DP manuals (5&6) and one current DP7 manual.

You can see the two old manuals in my latest avatar picture, propping up my speakers.

Re: Mac Pros and Cons.

I literally am sitting one foot away from my Mac Pro Quad, and it's cool to the touch...room temperature. I don't think the negligible heat impact, IMO, is an issue. Thanks.. That's reassuring. EDIT: And if you've read some related threads, there is a rumored release of the new Mac Pros for maybe l...

Re: Looking at getting a laptop. Recommendations?

That's good to hear about the Mac Pros. We've had a fairly warm stretch here in London this summer. Although I doubt it's up to West Virginian levels! My macbook pro gets hot sometimes, especially in a warm room.. I've not used the latest iMacs but i've heard they're very quiet, which could mean the...

Mac Pros and Cons.

I'll be buying myself a new Mac later this year for use in my fairly simple "home studio". I've pretty much narrowed my choice down to either a Quadcore Mac Pro (or equivalent) or a 27 inch Quadcore imac. I already own a 2007 model, intel macbook pro, which is fine for when i'm working awa...

Re: Looking at getting a laptop. Recommendations?

The 17 inch Macbook pro is the most expandable of the mac family, aside from the Mac Pro that is. As well as its standard firewire slot and usb slots, it has an ExpressCard/34 slot which can be used for additional external drives and UAD cards and so on. If expandability isn't an issue then basicall...

Re: Looking at getting a laptop. Recommendations?

Definitely go for a 15 inch. 17 inch is too bulky and awkward!

I've just been round a mates house doing some 'location' recording with my 3yo MBPro..

Power supply and some form of decent monitoring system is all you need.

Great, stress free way to record music IMO...

Re: Buying New MacPro. Opinion Wanted!

Does anybody have any idea what the new Mac Pro's are likely to cost? The current Quadcore in the UK comes in at just under £2000. Adding on the cost of Applecare and a decent monitor i'm figuring i'll need £2300-£2400 all together to get me started. I can then gradually add on drives, more ram, etc...

Re: Fidelity loss at mp3 conversion

I've been doing mixdowns that sound great, but the minute i convert them to mp3s, they sound terrible. Just for the record... MP3 sound quality is pretty decent so you really shouldn't be noticing such terrible results. Is the iTunes EQ or sound enhancer on? As Tim is implying. There must be someth...

Re: AU plug in oddity

Hi.. I had similar problems in early versions of DP6 and it took a full uninstall/reinstall to sort it out. I think it was something to do with some conflicting files between different versions of DP. Whenever I upgrade versions these days (i.e. 5 to 6, 6 to 7, etc), I delete all older versions of D...

Someone called Martin Eastwood has released a free reverb, imaginatively called MVerb. http://martineastwood.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Probably not the greatest reverb in the world but i'm sure i've heard worse! That's just my opinion though and as Martin's older ...

Re: Trash Preferences....

Another good thing to do is back up your DP preferences (and other prefs if you want) when everything is working ok. That way if your preferences do become corrupt you can easily trash your preferences and then put in a set of preferences that you know are ok, without having to start over from scrat...
