the mic ins on the 828 will work fine for direct guitar / bass signals, as will your mic preamp. try them out and see if you like the sound. I love the sound of bass through a tube mic pre, and use one live (bass > tube pre > amp). Just use usual caution / common sense when trying them out together,...

That machine will work nicely for the work you describe. I run a macbook pro now, but until recently I was using a 1.2 Ghz iBook G4, 768 GB ram, recording 6-8 tracks, mixing, multiple plugs / instruments etc. Certain instruments would bog that poor ibook down, as would lots of plugs, but creative tr...

I'm thinking you should be okay here. The only computer-dependent issue here is the track count (the cuemix and smpte stuff is all handled by external hardware i.e. your motu interface). The limiting factor here, as far as track count, would be the write speed of your hard drive. Each track at 24bit...

for me, anytime I've installed DP upgrades in the past it leaves the original app in tact. so even though i've upgraded from 5 up to 5.12, I still have DP5.app, DP5.11.app, DP5.12.app My guess is that motu does this to ensure you'll never lose access to old projects/plugs/instruments when you upgrad...

this is good news. Audiofile Engineering does great work; I'm a big fan of Wave Editor and Spectre.

I'm having similar problems with Ableton. I had no problem correcting latency in Logic Express (by playing a single square wave out of logic, through my 828mkII, then recording back into logic, counting the offset to 58 samples, and setting logic's delay compensation to match). This delay is consist...

DV does some weird things to sync, especially consumer cameras, and they all seem to behave a little differently. You might have better luck with a pro deck, you can find used Sony's around for pretty cheap. It's been a while since I had to deal with this issue, so I'm a bit foggy, but... You should...

[quote="HCMarkus"]If you are doing serious audio work, I would encourage you to stick with a MacPro over an iMac, as the iMac does not allow HD expansion other than on the Firewire bus, which is also the only available bus for audio I/O. I believe you can get an eSATA card for the MacBookP...
