On a strictly musical note, if you minimise your cymbal crashes, when you do use one it will sound way more dramatic. The pickup is your lowest cost option but I think you should try a Godin if you can. They make good quality guitars and some performers like the type of sound a guitar like that makes, especially live. Whatever your choice is, good luck!

I believe that a good quality sound comes froma good mic and good preamp. Some people mistake the sonic characteristics of a transformer with those of tubes. Personally I have gone with Seventh Circle Audio preamps which are transformer balanced clones of some pretty famous and great sounding preamp...

I used an Alesis/Groove Tubes Am51 on acoustic guitar on my latest recording and people (and myself included) think it sounds really good. You can pick these up from time to time on Ebay for around $100, I have a pair and they also work good as drum overheads. Really detailed top end, and also have ...
