Sounds like the firewire IC (Texas Instruments TSB41AB2) may have been bad. From what I can tell it has a clock output that goes into the Altera FPGA (and perhaps elsewhere). When that clock isn't there none of the front panel controls and LED's are "scanned".

I am using Sonar and did not think to look there. For some reason I was thinking you had to select which driver was being used in the XP control panel somewhere.

I just installed a PCI-324 sound card and everything seems to be working so far (though the latency is on the high side), the driver shows up as WDM.

I have heard that ASIO is the better way to go. How do I actually go about selecting the ASIO driver?
