I have one and am going from Garageband 3 to Garageband 08 (I know, I know, I'm just getting back up to speed...) which supports 24 bit, and I don't know if my 828 supports it or not.
thanks!

Yeah, kind of what I was thinking. I have DP4.5 and could get an imac now and upgrade to dp5.0 and see if I get used to it, or wait till the new macs come out. When the new version of Logic comes out I'm going to want to try that out as well... I think the biggest reason I'm thinking of waiting for ...

Which iMac to get
I'm setting up a composing/recording setup for home. It;ll be built around Digital Performer mkokst likely, and I'll be using a lot of virtual instruments. I can get a good deal on slightly used core duo 2.16 imacs now ($1k for a 20" or $1300 for a 24") or I'm wondering if I should wait fo...

I have spotlight ignoring those drives because I thought that might be the culprit too, but no dice.baanes wrote:If you're on 10.4 spotlight will spend some time indexing your drives when it first gets access to them. If this might be the case try leaving them plugged in overnight and see if it goes away.

Use Activity Monitor to find out what apps are running. You might have something running in the background that is spinning up those disks (i.e. a virus checker, etc.). I have activity monitor running and checked it. When the disks aren't connected, all is calm. When I connect them the cpu goes thr...

They should be formatted with the MacOS format. Did you run a disk check on your primary (boot drive) as well? You might have a corrupted directory or something similar. Are you running any apps in the background?[/quote] They are formatted with the MacOS format, and I have checked my primary (inter...

I have run disk utility and in fact erased the disk(s), reformatted, and then put the files back on. Same thing happens. I have other files on the disks, but the churning only happens when I put the sound files on. I don't know how they are formatted though. Is there a prefered formatting I should c...

Disk churn
I have several hard discs connected (three lacie discs and one smaller one) and a couple of them churn constantly, using tons of cpu and slowing down the mac. Both discs I believe have large folders with samples in them, for use with DP and Machfive, etc. I actually haven't used DP or Machfive in mo...
