Found instructions thru Roland to do a factory reset on the XP-50 and everything is now working great !! Doing edits in the MIDI window now and loving it......
You do have set to "local off" in SYSTEM/MIDI menu of the XP-50

I currently have the 24 i/o with PCIe and want to add an HD-192. does it have to be a newer model designated PCIe?

His reply is below: Correct--the MOTU wants to be the master in any sort of sync situation--this was a design choice made because the MOTU's new clock has good enough specs that it's comparable...

I believe that after the Mod it can still be synched as master or slave via the Word i/o port. I do not have any equipment without WC i/o so it should be fine for me...
