Re: Advice needed on SATA drive...

Seagate offer a 5 year warranty on their drives.
I have two internal 80GB 7200 rpm, 8 mb caches types that work great.

I went for durabililty over speed.

Sample names and bulk import

I was having trouble bulk-importing some third-party drum samples with the velocity switch option in the import window. Hereeeez what I discovered: The samples in the drumkit presets that came with M5 use names like: BD 2Skin Tight 1 VO1 BD 2Skin Tight 1 VO2 BD 2Skin Tight 1 VO3 etc. I successfully ...

Re: help me my brothers......

Were you able to run M5 under Panther on your PB?
I'm not sure what the status is of M5 with Tiger. Maybe 10.3.9 or whatever, is the answer.

Post your results.
Peace

Agreed!!!
The WaveArts stuff is good for transparent adjustments (sort of like boiled spaghetti).

PSP stuff is like adding olive oil and garlic: desirable coloration!!!

Re: cubase sx over DP?

As a former cubase user, I would say that DP's audio editting features, the mixer and the supplied plugs ( each with a generous amount of presets) are better than what is offer in cubase. As for what sequencer A can do versus sequencer B,...it really comes down to personal preference: work flow, and...

Re: Good economical compressor?

http://www.wavearts.com/ makes the TrackPlug (compressor and 10 band EQ): very cpu and wallet$ efficient.

It' also comes bundled as PowerCouple and Power Suite.
Very transparent.

Check it out.

Re: memory or cpu?

The first thing I would do is to install the maximum amount of Ram that the machine can handle.

A dual-processor upgrade might be a later consideration.

I'm working on a demo on my older system that has 8 channels of M5 samples with system responsiveness although the cpu meter is at max.

Re: Mach 5 tutorial

I agree, a tutorial would be helpful.
I'm a method book and manual junkie, but the DVD tutorial stuff I have seems to get right to the heart of the matter.

Re: SoftSamplers Vs.Hardsamplers

I have only used hardware playback samplers. Still do!!! There is no lag time when selecting and altering a parameter as can occur with a soft syth as the cpu is stressed. However...the potential to custom build a sample library from different formats (akai, emu, giga, etc) within M5 without memory li...

Re: Reading sample CDs

the old Roland CDs for the 760 sound great.[/QB] My first playback sampler was the Roland U220. I went to the store prepared to buy the Emu Proteus, but found the U220 samples more robust and vibrant. I used to drool at the sight of the 760 with that huge blue LCD. Good to hear that things worked o...

Re: Reading sample CDs

I tend to be a master of the obvious... but the UVI-Xtract chapter in the manual has a section entitled "Browsing a disc format" that discusses...inserting a sampler disc, wait for Mac OSX to tell you it cannot read the disc (at which point you are given two option buttons: eject, and igno...
