I've been following this thread with a lot of interest. I have 2 weeks of tracking left and plan a complete retrofit of my studio prior to mixing (maybe I'm insane). My focus will be on acoustics and some of the links are most helpful. I've been aware of Ethan's website for quite a while and Gearslu...

Closer inspection of a blow-up of the back of the MkIII at the Motu website shows FireWire 400 ports. Other than perhaps a cost issue, is there any reason anyone can think of why they wouldn't go 800? It's probably a combination of expense and the more universal standard of 400 over 800. That 400 a...

Should also mention that I'm still using an original 828 so a move to the MkIII should be quite noticeable, hell I've never even used Q-mix. Oddly enough I was just researching new interfaces the other day and had basically decided to get a MkII along with DP 6.

There used to be a lot of talk regarding the high pitched whine of a 10k drive due to rotation speed, is that something that's been resolved or was it just urban myth?

This is cool. I have *always* wanted a way to do basic EQ, like high-pass filtering before the signal gets into the DAW. Couldn't agree more, I rarely EQ anything per se while tracking, preferring to do that in the mix, but often will use a high pass to filter out rumble or non relevant frequencies...

might get my efficiency with DP back up to Opcode Vision levels! Even after six years with DP, I still miss how fast I used to be able to get around Vision. Thank you MOTU. I'm very excited about DP6. I hear you Paul, I love DP and look forward to 6, but man could I navigate fast in Vision. My choi...

set your sends to pre-fader, the button is located next to the "m" on the strip, I believe it's a "p" (not at DAW right now.

Also been using one since they came out and must say "no problems". If the 1200F had been available at the time I'd probably gone with it instead however.

The final process in standard CD prep is mastering. It's the last chance to do a bit of overall EQing, limiting, compressing etc. before the final burn. The reason for this is to attempt to have consistancy in bottom and top end as well as loudness occur on all the tracks going to CD. Some people li...

The website is a bit confusing but perseverence pays off. It's a very cool little plug that I've already tried out in several different ways. It puts me in mind of when we used to mix a compressed buss sub back into the main mix and use the faders to control the amount of compression.

What Yiannis suggests would work for compression, however for reverb, you'd want to set up the sends on each channel strip to an Aux in, typically 1-2 or 3-4. On your Aux channel insert a Verb and use the send controls on each strip to set the amount of signal to the Aux/Verb. Toofar also has a grea...

Re: OT: Two week special deal on Elemental Audio - Inspector

Snapped this up the second I received the e-mail, I use all their plugs and love them all. Now if they'd make a verb that's equal in quality to their other plugs.
