Re: DP and DAE
By the way, DAE mode is such a marginal part of DP that it seems like there is a good chance if you asked MOTU about it someone who doesn't really understand DAE mode will try to answer it without really knowing. Maybe trippit can suggest who specifically to consult if need be. This is not meant to ...

Re: DP and DAE
Sorry, I assumed you were asking about sample rate. As far as I know, when you use DAE, you should be getting the same 48 bit, because DAE is handling all the audio. The only thing DP does is provide the graphical interface. But that is a good question. I've never noticed any difference in the soun...

Re: Motu or Digi
If you have a good opportunity at a "busy" protools studio, getting as sharp as you can on the system that studio uses will help you be the one they turn to. Of course many a studio is busy for a few months or years, and then folds suddenly. It might be nice to be able to take home some pr...

Re: Motu or Digi
Depending on your level of MIDI sophistication, moving to Pro Tools could be a big downer for you. DP makes MIDI so easy. Also, I think PT still has track limits. You want more tracks, you pay for them. But people tend to like whatever they use, so use PT for a while and maybe you'll like it. Shoos...

Re: DP and DAE
Technically DP doesn't run at 32 float- the MAS audio engine that most people use with it does. In DAE mode the audio doesn't use the MAS audio engine- in fact you couldn't MAS and can't use MAS or Audio Unit plugins while in DAE mode- just like you can't in PT. Logic also can run in DAE mode, but i...

Re: D.P.5 and D.P.6 together?
Does an install of DP 6 on a drive with existing DP 5 repalce some DP5 components with DP6. In particular the audio units component/driver that cause GUI problems for some in DP 6.0? If so it might be good to make a backup of those.
And are preferences replaced/reset to default?

Re: Using DP for a live concert
Sort of a footnote regarding interfacing line level audio with house soundsystems: The venue you are playing sounds like they will have pretty professional soundmen and equipment. In smaller venues sometimes it happens you might get overload or distortion if you feed a line level output (like from a...

Re: Using DP for a live concert
I will be the band leader for a big concert (2 nights in the Coliseum) here in HK (Canto-pop) in April. We will be doing about 40 songs (!), and for a number of them, I plan on running DP along with the band (I'll be using my G4 laptop and DP 5.13, mainly running one stereo mix of extra synth/strin...

Re: Motu or Digi
Hey All - Not sure if this post should be in the hardware section or not. Well, I'm thinking about upgrading/changing hardware: currently I'm running DP 5.13 (tried 6.01, too buggy) on my Quad G5 with a PCI424, HD192 and a 241o and I'm thinking about going to an HD1 set up. Long story but it comes ...

Re: Line 6-- clever all-in DAW interface
It was in new product announcements at Harmony Central Jan 15, 2009. http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM09/Content/Line6/PR/POD-Studio-KB37.html So perhaps this is a new version, or repackaging? Is this because their were problems with the original, or they just want to generate new interest? Does...

Re: Is their a need for DP5 when you have DP6
Perhaps the following observations are a result of insufficient experience with DP 6, but: preferred having selection points at the top left of the Tracks window to click new selection points into, but this depends on how one works in the tracks window (if one even uses it at all). DP6 lacks the gra...

Re: Question about software with strings techniques
Wasn't the original soundtools an editing program for EMUlator and Prophet 2000 samples, to make them stream more quickly from computer to sampler and back? Soundtools II did four channels of audio. ProTools did not include MIDI recording. Opcode released StudioVision, a version of their Vision prog...

Re: EW Symphonic Choirs PLAY
THe problems with PLAY are only non- specifically referred to. One poster has GYPSY working. So when someone says PLAY is unusable, do you mean in DP on a A)ppc or B)intelmac 1. Freezes on load or causes crashes even if not playing 2. More than a couple voices of polyphony cause clicks/pops, crashes...

Re: UAD2-SOLO ExpressCard already ready
From the UAD webzine:
"... showing functional previews of the SOLO/Laptop at booth # 7003 at the NAMM Show, while the manufacturing department ramps up to full production in March..."
Sweetwater shows it as a new item to preorder.
Do you know anybody shipping it or about to ship it?

Re: Ethno Protools question missing plugin
Maybe search at du.idigdsign for Ethno- there might be some mention of it not being compatible with PT8.
Also some people are getting some recalcitrant plugins to work in PT8 by adding a suffix to the plug in name (.dpm ?- check at duc.digidesign).
