Re: Help please: Recording with a Powerbook
Hello. I am excited to be a brand new DP user and very glad to find this forum. I'll try to post all the pertinent info: I'll be using a 15" PB/1.67GHz G4/1.5GB/80G 5400rpm/running Panther 10.3.9/ M-Audio FireWire 410 I gather I'll need an external hard drive. I've scoured posts here and elsew...

Re: Please forgive my tecnnical stupidity and answer........
I was thinking about switching to the 828 usb due to the little extra bandwidth over fire wire 400 You should call it extra banwidth in theory. USB2 has an advantage over FW400 (480 vs. 400 kbit/s) but this is only in theory. If you look at real world tests than these tests show that in reality FW4...

Have to disaggree with this! I put a Hitachi 7200 drive in my TiBook 500 and the performance gain was impressive. This was three years ago and its still going strong. I use the machine to record 24 track live gigs onto the internal drive (partitioned) This was impossible with the original drive. In...

Re: powerbook hard drive advice please.

Re: powerbook hard drive advice please.
Would it be better to install osx as well as dp/reason/live etc.....on the the firewire drive? This might speed up things a bit BUT don't fool yourself, you can add faster HD and/or maximize your RAM but you wont gain too much speed. The problem is slow processor, slow motherboard, slow RAMs. A com...

Re: powerbook hard drive advice please.
1) your hard drive is either 4200 or 5400 rpm. to my knowledge the 4800 rpm hd doesnt exist 2) I personally think that buyng 7200 rpm drive to your existing PowerMac is not a good investment. You are right, about the 4200 rpm, that was a typo...... thank you for the feedback. Would it be better to i...

powerbook hard drive advice please.
Hi- I use a titanium 800, with 3/4 gigs of ram, os 10.43. Now don't laugh, I know, but the hard drive is only 4800 rpm. It used to just be an extra machine with my duall 500 being my main rig until I retired it. My performance is quite crappy. Especialy using soft synths ala reason, and even my powe...
