Powercore
This is a really old thread, but I wanted to add to the chorus of Powercore despisers. The plugs are not very high quality and it drains way too much power. The freebies in DP work fairly well and there are a host of other options. The UAD-1 is so much better, but they had better get a PCI-e version...

SC- Not supid to ask this at all. If you want the real skinny on clocking, check out the latest edition of TapeOP magazine #51 (free from their website). They interview Lucas van der Mee from Apogee and he fully explains the deal. Bottom line to your question is YES you need a clock. Even if all you...

If the flatest omni mic is your objective buy the Earthworks that fits your budget. As for a preamp, you are talking some serious money for the likes of a True, Millenium, or Manley. I am sure there are others, but these color the sound very little. All in all, I would think $2K-$3K to get what you ...

Similar to monitor choice, all that matters is that your mixes translate in the end.The Sony 7506's are my choice, but only because that is what I am used to. At around $100 they are a great value. They are also great for vocal tracking due to very minimal bleed. I believe that the key is to listen ...

Okay, I am no genius and I'm propably making myself the ground as suggested earlier, but since my studio has power conditioners and other elctrical protection I'm okay with my low-tech solution. I bought aligator clips and wire at radio shack and made a small cable which I then clip to the bridge pl...

dmshep- I have had great luck with an inexpensive pair of AKG C430's ($199 at Musicians's Friend on special) as drum overheads. Mic placement is key here. I have found that about 18 inches over the drummer's head set up in a XY coincident of 60 degrees (not 90 degrees as you see so often) works well...

Okay, I am a year late on this post but if I am reading for the first time, perhaps you are too. I have used 75 ohm coax from Radio Shack - on clearance for $0.06 a foot!- with solderless BNC connectors to make custom length WC cables. (Never longer than 15 ft. in my case) I run these from my Big Be...
