Re: Thank you, B Lyons

James, there might have been with the MBOX now that you bring it up. At that time, Focusrite was under US Distribution of Digidesign---so when Focusrite split-off into their own company that may have been the case.

Re: The Best Digital Mixer ... Pre's, routing, dynamics....?

I actually helped design the StudioLive16-- I'm assuming you mean as far as giving them input on features and stuff, right? You don't mean designing as far as needing an electrical engineering degree type designing? Oh yeah, I don't dare try to offer input at all on the electrical engineering! If I...

Re: Thank you, B Lyons

Glad you picked one up! And this just goes to prove that gear lust is the same down under as it is up yonder. That Bluebird came out several years ago and was only available as a bundle purchase along with the Focusrite Voicemaster Pro.....it was about a year later (maybe less?) when it was made ava...

Re: The Best Digital Mixer ... Pre's, routing, dynamics....?

I actually helped design the StudioLive16---although my initial discussion with Presonus was to have been a control-surface with 16-channels of pre, DSP, and an audio interface. I was surprised to see that shift to being a digital mixer instead, without a control surface mode and without motorized f...

Re: Is firewire that much better than USB?

Well no, my point is that the specs of Mic A are better than Mic B. By the way, Mic is an Audio Technica AT2020 for $99, Microphone B is the BLUE KIWI for $1999. There is a woooooooooorld of difference in sound between them, not even close. But how can that be, the AT2020 has more DB before clipping...

Re: Is firewire that much better than USB?

Okay---let's try this. I have (2) microphones in mind here, I'll give you the specs and you tell me which one is better. MICROPHONE A: Condenser microphone that is 20Hz to 20kHz and a max SPL of 144dB MICROPHONE B: Condenser microphone that is also 20Hz to 20kHz but only has a max SPL of 133dB So wh...

Re: Is firewire that much better than USB?

I'm not referring to MAC or WINDOWS....I'm referring to COMPUTERS. With all due respect, I'm knee-deep in this stuff. I see not only everything that works, but everything that doesn't work. In nearly every case I've seen of disk-streaming on USB, it fails--where FW400 does not, and I'm talking Windo...

Re: Is firewire that much better than USB?

I'm not sure what the original poster was asking specifically---but what we've been discussing are two things: POINT #1 is Firewire better than USB for audio interfaces. In general, YES. Talking more specifically FW400 v/s USB2.0---although on paper USB2.0 is 480mbps v/s 400mbps of FW400, the actual...

Re: MOTU support to stores?

Every retailer is different both in how they do business and what lines they do business with. I'm one of the Sr. Sales Engineers for Sweetwater, by far MOTU's largest and most supportive retailer. We will go through more MOTU products in a month than most stores could even come close to in an entir...

Re: Replace 2408 with same or ???

I agree about a new 2408mk3.... Back in the day most of those that bought the original 2408 did so because it was one of the first 8-channel analog audio interfaces on the market, competing with the Event (by Echo) Layla, which had a problem getting to market. Over the years I've had clients call to...

Re: Two 896MK3 - daisy-chained - 96kHz Issues

IMHO, the FW400 bus really isn't capable of that many channels of 96kHz---that very well could be the issue here. Try removing all devices but one, and see what happens. Also, turn unused channels off.

Yes, try it on another computer--preferably with a different OS and see what happens. It does sound like it could be faulty, to me.

Re: Stability of MOTU USB MIDI interfaces on Windows?

I've been a Windows user up until about 2-years ago, now I won't go near Windows boxes for the simple fact that Windows will always be Windows---and I'm done dealing with Windows. When it comes to MOTU USB MIDI interfaces on Windows, it's totally fine. Any issues that users are having are not the MO...
