Re: Hard Drive Whats Your Pick?

From my experience, there is no reason to get a 10k drive at this point over 7200rpm.... there's not a performance advantage as the through-put of SATA is so huge already. In fact, the 10k drives (I'm told) act like a 7200rpm drive... I don't know the details there but I do have a 10k SATA drive and...

Re: cd mastering program

JAM is a very cool program, but I admit I prefer BIAS PEAK though. It's considerably more money, but PEAK is a full stereo editor that is ideal when dealing with mixdown files and preparing for CD. You may want to check it out before buying peanut butter, I mean Smuckers, I mean... JAM ;-)

Re: Lucid 6-96 Vs Big Ben

Lucid makes a fine product, but note they have (2) different levels of Master Clocks with the GenX6 and the SSG192. The GenX6 was designed to be an inexpensive master clock that does the job, but it's NOT on the same level as their higher-end unit or Apogee's. The results of the BigBen have been phe...

Re: Apogee A/D Converter Roundup

There are (3) VERY important aspects to any studio for mixing IMHO..... in no particular order, your A/D conversion, your D/A conversion, and your studio monitors. Of course there are many other things too, but these are important. Part of what makes Apogee so good is the analog section, as well as ...

Re: Focusrite ISA428

Adam, Congratulations! I am a HUGE fan of Focusrite products, in fact.... I'm their #1 guy out there selling their gear :-) I personally own a pair of ISA430mkII's and a pair of ISA428's (okay technically just one, I sold off ne and am about to re-purchase another). I'm in process of buying (2) Liqu...

Re: powercore?

Shank, No, I don't believe it or not :-) I will admit that when the Powercore first came out years ago, I wouldn't recommend it...too many problems, but that was resolved and now it is a great solution. As far as if it's worth it to someone, it really depends on what they are after. IMHO, it's best ...

Re: powercore?

Yes, the Latency Compensation works just fine and I DO recommend the POWERCORE card. I want to remind you and others that using these DSP-cards do not provide more DSP, they just provide dedicated processing for high-quality plugins that otherwise would not be able to run (or as many) in a native-sy...

Re: G5 or Dual G4 opinions

I disagree on the Dual G4 v/s a Single G5. Processors speeds are important, but Bus-Speed is very important. A dual-processor G4 will certainly do a lot of work, but try running a Waves IR1 on that 167Mhz bus-speed v/s a 900Mhz bus-speed and then you'll really see the difference when you try to do m...

Re: Looking for a good BASS sound

Yes, TRILOGY absolutely IS the solution.....coming from a keyboardist :-) Of course this is when I'm writing, when I'm tracking I do bring in a real-bassist. I go direct into my Focusrite ISA430mkII, sounds SWEEEEET. [ October 28, 2004, 06:55 PM: Message edited by: Brad Lyons ]

Re: Best Orch sample lib for M5?

I own the full professional edition of the VSL Symphonic Library for GigaStudio and swear by it, it's amazing! I have tried converting various Giga samples into MachFive with various results. Some libraries went perfectly, some did not. I will say that having been doing conversion for years in hardw...
