I have Waves plug-ins, and the UAD-1. G4, so I'm in a slightly different boat. But I'm not sure I understand your upgrade concerns. If you think about it, you have to upgrade software every time there is a new operating system. Waves will kick you back something until it hits a different version, li...

Oh yeah, and seriously, Unless they've changed their schtick, avoid Keyspan stuff for USB. I have a hub, lost the DC adapter, couldn't even get the ••••ing voltage from the hub (wasn't printed/stamped/molded onto/into the housing at all), couldn't get a phone or email response, so basically they •••...

My .o2. Firewire cables are limited to 15 because that's what they'll do without a repeater, or whatever you call it. So in your scenario, you're covered. A powered USB hub will cover your keyboard, and monitors will run on extention cables just fine. I have my computer rig outside my control room w...

"But in a real-world situation I could not get more than 7 channels. I always suspected the combined firewire / ada chips on the motherboard not to be able to handle both a lot of disk activity and firewire activity at the same time. The new drive however did solve the problem. (7200 rpm and 8M...

Yeah, thanks. I'd need a towel if I had a Midas. But again, the price point.

I worked in a studio that used several LaCies. At the time, (2 years ago, I guess) their drivers were completely incompatible with DP stuff, or whatever else it was, don't remember. But having both drivers going was causeing the drives to not show up. Had to resurrect the drives with Disk Warrior a ...

My two cents. I love my motu ••••. All of it. When I could actually get them on the phone, over the years, when I needed them, they were great. But my dream clock is the Apogee Big Ben. I feel I can trust what the other posters are saying about their Apogee products doing the clock job improvement. ...

Thanks everyone. Howzabout this? What about those pres vs. soundcraft pres in their smaller mixers? I'm trying to get the most bang for the buck. I'd use the digital ins on my 2408 for the outs from the Octo or the Onyx, but I could alternately get a used 2408 on ebay "fer cheap" and pipe ...

I was looking at the D112 and the D6 myself last year. Used the former quite a bit, had to be very specific with where to put it, but got great results. With a CLOSED bass drum, never got a good sound. Used the old cube AKG D12 for that with fabulous results. Got myself a D6 last year, have done sev...

Onyx 800 vs Focusrite Octopre

Anyone have experience with both these boxes? I'm looking for more simultaneous ins to my 2408 mkII, using the ADAT port or TDIF. They are about the same price, though the Mackie's got two channels of variable imp. My question really rests on the quality of the converters. Better Focusrite's are, we...

What chaps my ass, is when you can't get a reply at all. I did have a problem like this, which seemed (after extensive headbanging and lost hours) to have been the result of me turning on or off a DA-38 connected to a 2408 mk2, while the 2408 was still turned on. OS 9, etc. No one knew how to solve ...

Re: Bounce to disk volume is way low

Gerk, As far as normalizing your interface, I don't know if you'd call it a true, voltage output unity gain without knowing how to use an oscilliscope, but the easy thing is to change the jumper settings in your 2408. The info to do this is in the hardware manual. You're basically rerouting the head...

Re: Making the most from a g4 400 mhz

Many thanks for the finer points. I am aware that giga doesn't support OS 9, recently went to 10.3.9 for other stuff, dealt with firewire issues on drives accessed by both OS's. Hoping that the cpu upgrade (1.8 ghz single) will work with OS9, DP 3.11, and the UAD card and give me some time to recoup...

Re: Making the most from a g4 400 mhz

All Y'all, Thanks for the replies. Much I've already done, like minimizing extension, keeping OS/apps and audio on separate drives. The comment about the SATA card, I did realize I would have to get at least one SATA drive and maybe an adapter cable to use one of the bigger, newest drives I have. Bu...
