Focusrite support came up trumps, using a Dicetool and some great instructions was able to re-install the Saffire Firmware using the Mac terminal.....result

Frodo......I was clearly having a "Doh!" moment as... YES I can now uncheck Audio Performance and it at last appears....in all the excitement of the re-instal I forgot to do ALL of the stuff I did first time round....so good news Audio Performace is working...for now....still missing some ...

I read somewhere in the official blurb that a PDF Manual would form part of the on-line help menu and that there would also be a copy on the instal disc....or perhaps I had lapsed into an intensive session with DP8 induced hallucination by then......
