Post by screwge »

keepin it real I like the fact that the micpre's on the 828 is located on the back where I feel they suppose 2 B sometimes these company's come out with not neccessarily better products but more fancy features of overkill. I do hip hop rap music and I learned longtime ago working @ Manny's Music in NYC that the finished product which in my musicworld is a compact disc is only 44/16 bit somebody please explain 2 me what's the big deal about all this 96 & 192 bullsh•• that your consumers can careless about along as your music is hot that's what count for those of us trying to sell music in my case streetmusic my homeboyz don't give a •••• about mk2 & mk3 & 896's it's about makin good music bottomline. Now that I vented after talkin to them Ivy League asshole @ motu my ? is what's the difference between the 828 & 828mk2 besides switchin the micpre's to the front & changing the color which r features not sound quality enhancement r the converters & micpre's better on the mk2 that's what I need 2 know simple & plain b-cuz if not I will be purchasing a 828 of ebay not spending another penny with them pricks @ motu they don't deserve it look how they treat us presales suck tech support is five guys sharing one line @ a time makin us wait and listen to a busy tone for an half hour b4 U hit da lotto & get an answer U know what 4get it I'm finish Holla Back!

Biggest difference ... Cue mix, which is an input monitoring app that is installed with the drivers which will allow you to monitor with 0 latency. Also, there are two firewire ports on the back of the unit which will allow you to chain firewire devices. It also has extra Mic/line ins on the front of the unit as well as a MIDI in/out. Off the top of my head and quickly, those are the major differences I can think of.

Hello

I believe the specs are better for the mk II, can't remember the original specs (I know you expressed your thoughts on this, but the MK II can record at 96k, while the original is 48 k. I never really got too down and dirty with the original 828, but I have really enjoyed using the mk II. I find it to be a good interface.

The Cue Mix console may only be used with the MK II. You can not utilize this app with the original. Also, one other feature you may find useful, the MK II has a standalone mode while the original does not. Sorry I cannot be more specific on the specs between the two but I hope that helps.

a whole lot better than tech support thanks again. now do you think the firewire connection of the 828mkII is more solid than the pci connections use for the 2408 series or it doesn't really matter. by the way my gear consist of dual gig mirrordoor G4, DP4.51, 2408, 2408mk2, 24i, MIDI express xt, mackie hui not the baby hui, dbx 386 chained with the dbx-ddp so I'm trying to decide whether to buy the 2408mk3 or cut out the pci & go 828mk2 firewire.

Well ...

Both connections are stable. If you were to get the 2408 mk 3 with the 424 card, you could still use all your old PCI devices with that new card, and you would have Cue Mix in OSX (with the 424 card).

With your set up, I would look towards the 2408 MK 3 if it were me, unless you see something on the 828 MK II that the 2408 MK 3 does not offer.

Hello

I have somewhat of a mobile rig though I don't really use it for mobile recording :)

I use the 15 inch G4 1.5 powerbook with an 828 MK II and a Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer. DP 4.12 with M5, NI Intakt, and various other plugs. I also have a Roland RS-5 synth that I have connected to a fastlane. Good enough for my home recordings that I consider my second job (hopefully my first job someday ;) )

I have experience also with using the PCI card systems with a 24 i/o and 2408 MK 3.
