Motu M2 Issue with Siri and Dictation - RESOLVED

Post by nireldesign »

Hello Guys!

Would highly appreciate a solution for this.

Ever since I've plugged my MOTU M2 to my Mac Mini M2 Pro
I can't use Siri nor Dictation (using my Mic plugged into my M2)
and with Logic pro it works great.

Never happened with my previous devices such as Arturia's or Focusrite's.

Any Idea?

Core Audio or MOTU drivers?

Am I correct that you are using this to handle all System Audio?

What macOS and build?

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply.

Where can I find I f I'm using core audio or Motu drivers?

The system chooses M2 sound output and input automatically...

The M2 will work on a Mac with or without (Core Audio) the MOTU drivers. The drivers enable Loopback and lower latency by a barely noticeable amount.

You need to check Settings/Sound to make sure that the M2 is your sole source for System audio and not anything else such as a mic in a webcam or monitor.

But does it show that in System Settings/Sound?

You've got the output tab selected. What about the input tab?

Are you seeing level activity on that meter?

I guess you could also open Audio MIDI Setup and poke around there a little.

I always find it easier to see Audio Options by option-clicking the speaker in the menu bar.

I can see activity on the meter...
and what should I look for in the MIDI settings?

Click on the input tab and look to see of the faders are zeroed out. I'm not sure if that means anything, as sometimes that is just the way CoreAudio deals with some external devices that have their own configuration options.

Yea, I think that was a red herring.

My interface shows all the faders zeroed out, because Core Audio does not have control over those levels-- which are handled by the device and it's mixer/config panel.

But that doesn't mean that the input is not receiving signal-- just means CoreAudio can't control it.

Just disregard this.

I use software from Rogue Amoeba called Loopback ($100 USD) which lets me create virtual input and output devices with combinations of various signal routings-- and those have volume controls.
