chrisdm1978 wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 12:42 pm Surely MOTU must have some role in this since Logic works fine. Except I can't stand using Logic compared to DP lol. Logic has got to be one of the most unintuitive DAWs.
In the release notes for 7.10.0 NI states that Logic Pro crashes are a known issue and punts it back at Apple. Perhaps you just haven't given it enough time, I hate to say.
Cut time…you may be right. Though I have tested Guitar rig 7 for long lengths of time in Logic with no issues. The reason for the Kontakt crash is the same for Guitar rig and their newer products using the QT framework, according to NI in my support ticket. I have been resorting to Kontakt 6, however I’m now into a MIDI heavy production with LASS 3, Virharmonic bohemian libraries that is not going well in DP 11.31 with Kontakt 6. NI never actually qualified Kontakt 6 for Sonoma, so I’m not surprised. But basically what will happen, is I if I get a CPU spike, DP will warn me. I stop the track. Everything seems fine until you hit play, then it will just beach ball on and on requiring a force quit of DP. So in my more extensive testing..Kontakt 6 is not a workable solution either. This really sucks. Looks like I’ll have to export this project to Logic and try in Kontakt 7 and pray it works as well as Guitar Rig has been in Logic. Though as you say I might have issues there also. What a PITA.

With the recent update for Kontakt, the update log mentions that they have been in touch with Apple and Apple acknowledges there is an issue in the OS with a communication layer. Looks like they had it fixed, or partially fixed in 14.5 Beta 1, and it broke again in 14.5 beta 2 :(

The release version of 14.5 can’t come soon enough. I’m on 14.5b1 and I think I’ll just sit tight for the 14.5 release.

This is fun....Using Kontakt 6 in limp mode til they fix Kontakt 7. , here's what happens once you hit a CPU spike and it just hangs on 1 P core maxed out. Bricking DP on the beachball. I'm limping it along using a large buffer 1024 just to avoid this happening, but now and then it happens and no choice but to force quit and restart DP. Really helps the creative juices....oh and to top it off Tried switching Buffer size once and decided to give me full scale digital blast...from Eventide Blackhole plugin. Awesome. Never forget to put Nugen Audio Sigmod on your master bus with protect mode on. Luckily I use an outboard monitor controller and was not turned super loud...but loud enough to make your day! Hopefully this screen shot comes through showing the spike. Who knows could be the virharmonic libraries I'm using, but for all you who stayed on M1max be thankful you don't have this crap going on. I only moved since I had opportunity to sell the machine at a good price...and move up but the growing pains truly do suck. Similar to when I moved to M1max from my 5,1 with the Ultralite Mk5. That was fun. Thank god they eventually fixed that.

Got this project imported to Logic...so far no crashes using Kontakt 7 with playback at 128 buffer in Logic. Let's see as I start adding more MIDI parts if it falls apart...

I just did the update and found the same thing: No crashes in DP, Logic or external monitors.

The GUI window flickers on my external monitors but again, no crashes even when I change libraries in a single instance.

As long as this works and I find no other issues, I will stand pat on this beta 3 until the macOS 14.5 official release.

Updating my TechLink, Apple and NI again...

This is good news, Mike.

Based on this, would you think it safe to update to 14.4.1 until 14.5 official is available (I'm still on 14.4 on my production machine)?

Yes. I haven't found any other issues with Beta 3 — and I have been looking.

Apple and NI both now know that the issue is a communication layer bug introduced in macOS 14.4, partly fixed in 14.5 beta 1 then broken again in beta 2. So, there are eyes on the prize.

I've reported the flickering GUI on external monitors but if that's the worst there is, I am good.

I've seen that too!

Anyway... I updated to Sonoma 14.5 Public Beta 3 from Public Beta 1 and all seems good here. What's odd is I'm guessing NI pulled down the Kontakt 7.10.1 update? I still have Kontakt 7.9.0 installed and when I run Native Access, it does not show me that there are any updates available for Kontakt.

NA2 is not showing the 7.10.1 update for users running Sonoma. If you were on an earlier version of macOS, you'd see it.

macOS Public Beta 14.5 (2) dropped this evening. My only issue with 14.5 was the occasional crash of DP when I deleted a track and that happened only three times — although once was a MIDI track with Kontakt 7.9.0 on ot, the other two weren't. I've a Studio M2 Ultra. I''m hoping that these random crashes stop. Wee'll see…

Not seeing this at all.

Are you shutting down and rebooting before trying to load? Kontakt and Komplete have been requiring that since DP 8 or 9 for me.
Yes I've rebooted almost everytime I install or re-install something. I've tried both ways.
Surprisngly, the 14.5 Beta is working pretty good and I am able to get Kontakt 6.8 to work flawlessly (it seems), however Kontakt 7.90 still crashes the system imediately so I have disabled it until there is a fix. It must directly be an NI issue I suppose. I'm not going to 14.5 beta 2 as I see there are problems...
Rebooting doesn’t do it. You have to shut down first.
Okay thanks Mike I didn't know there was a diffference.
Big Update: So.. somehow I have a stable system for several days now. I am using Sonoma 14.5 beta (i did not update to beta 2 or 3) with DP 11.31 and Kontakt 7.10.1 on M2 Pro Max, This combination seems to do the trick for me. I haven't had any crashes and everything is working properly as it should. I'll post back when/if it starts having problems again.
