Is the MOTU M2 Audio Interface capable of electrocuting a pair of headphones?

Post by TrobbaTune »

Hello MOTUnation

Yesterday, the left cup of my Sennheiser HD 560 S headphones stopped working.
"Oh well," I thought. They suited me nicely for the past few years, so I bought a new pair.
The new pair arrived, and with the same cord, the left cup still did not work.
Foolish. I never tested the cord. I've occasionally mushed it with the wheels of my computer chair; it made sense.
I plugged in the shorter, box-included cord and things were fine...
...for five minuites; the right cup of my new pair of headphones (plugged in with the new cord into my MOTU M2) flatlined.
Now, I'm using my old pair with the new cord and everything is dandy.

My question: Can the MOTU M2's 1/4" deliver a level of electricity (through a damaged cable) enough to fry a pair of headphones?
