Reverse reverb in DP's effects?

Post by Tidwells@aol.com »

Is there a decent reverse reverb effect anywhere in DP's built in plug-ins?

In my experience, the best reverse reverb FX are achieved by:

1. Applying (writing) normal reverb to a soundbite (leaving enough tail for the decay to be included)

2. Reversing the resulting soundbite and placing it appropriately in the timeline.

In which case your favorite reverb will do just fine!

For the classic “Money, Money, Money” reverse, reverb, sound effect:

1. Reverse a copy of the soundbite (via Reverse with apply-soundbite)
2. Apply any reverb plugin to the reversed soundbite via apply-soundbite
3. Now reverse that soundbite

I normally apply 100% wet reverb to the reverse soundbite, and align the results on a track adjacent to the original, and mix to taste

Thanks, Guys (I guess I'm assuming neither of you is a "Gal"....If so, my apologies)! I think what I'm looking for is a delayed "swoosh" AFTER the snare hits....almost like the sound of splashing water or something similar. I guess if I follow your suggestions and then play around with the the timing, I may get the desired result. Maybe even adding normal reverb to the "tweaked" reverse reverb track....I'll have to put on my white lab coat and play around with it!

Are you trying to sound like Phil Collins? I had an Alesis reverb box with that effect: delay, reverse reverb. If you type that into a Google search followed by free, a lot of links appear.

Gated reverb - I probably had the same Alesis box. IIRC it did gate and reverse gate.

Just to add that if you want the reverse reverb to precede the dry sound, the steps shown by dix and HCMarkus are the authentic way to get it done. If you want the reverb to follow the dry sound as in "Baamm-mmaaB" which might be the swoosh thing; then you just take dix's last step and shift the reverb later until it cross-fades out of dry to wet in the shape you like.

Thanks everyone for even more helpful suggestions! I'll probably have to wait until the weekend to try them out.

You could also reverse an impulse response and load that into proverb and play around with length and pre-delay.

Oh hell, I didn't need that $24 today, right?

You'd think this warning would not be necessary but it's kind of reassuring that they thought to post it.

Mirror uses DAW latency compensation to keep correct timing, therefore it will not work when tracking live. Please see the documentation to understand some DAWs' limitations.

Turns out I bought this in 2022 as part of a package I don't recall (Melda?). Never activated it before today. In DP, it's listed under the manufacturer JMG.
