New experience for me -

I have 11.22 labeled as such, and 11.3 labeled as such in the applications folder.

I'm fairly certain in the past while transitioning between versions that opening DP via a session file would always open the latest version of DP.

This time it opens 11.22, even if it's been saved from 11.3. I'm having to open 11.3 first, then open the session file.

It may be my imagination, but (and this is un-scientific) Custom Consoles isn't crashing so much in 11.3 when editing them.

I still wish Motu would give Custom Consoles a facelift, but if it doesn't crash so much anymore that is terrific to me!

I'm going to try Clippings now, the other feature that guarantee crashes DP for me, to see if it's also better?

Creating clippings crashed DP for me maybe 80% of the time in the past.

Congrats to Motu with Custom Consoles being reliable now though!

That is terrific!

I had this exact same experience. I ended up trashing 11.22 to fix the problem. No harm done. I guess I could just have renamed it now that I think about it.

Hmm...there's an idea...tried renaming 11.22, still opens in 11.22 even when saved from 11.3.

Get info (in the finder) on the file and select "Open With" [proper version of DP].

Then check the box "Use this app to open all documents like this one."

Worked for me.

I know what they're talking about though. I've had that happen where I changed it to open with the latest DP version by default and it didn't "stick." I ended up deleting the older version. If people are concerned about trashing it and maybe needing to install later, just "compress" it and delete the original. if you need the older version later, just expand the archive.

It was a bit different here. When I installed 11.3, it renamed the existing app file to DP 11.23 and that one appeared in the launcher. When I deleted 11.23, 11,3 appeared in the launcher and that one opened by default. It was less confusing when you had to rename the existing version to stop it from being replaced by the update, if that’’s what you wanted.

Seriously? The installer re-named the existing Digital Performer.app for you before installing the new version? If that's the case, that's news to me. I thought the installers always overwrote the previous version of the app if you didn't rename it?

Yeah it seems to be working that way. DP11.3 is simply named Digital Performer, while 11.23 gets renamed Digital Performer 11.23. Makes sense considering the Mac OS Dock.

Totally makes sense. It's just that this appears to be a new feature.

Not entirely new. I recall this happening with previous updates. When I updated to 11.3 I had three versions of DP in the Apps folder, with the older iterations carrying the version number in the file name. I recall the same thing happening before that.

Another thing you could try is control-clicking the DP document and selecting "Open With" from the pop-up. Once opened and saved it should open with the newer version. (well it "should" :? )

BTW, the Open With pop-up also indicates the current default app for the selected document.

Had. Now notes disappear upon resize.
