Did today. Easiest update ever. Two clicks. One on the UIV portal icon and one on an update button. I wish others would adopt this simple an update process.

It opened without any issues. The UI is pretty much the same. it looks like the main changes are to the sophistication of the synthesis engine, but it already did more than I need.

It needs at least OS 10.14, which is where I am, so won’t be long before I have to install a newer OS.

Easy update. Installed the new update and the updated factory libraries. Opened right up.

Falcon 3 installed quite easily and opened with no problem, but I can't seem to download the updated Falcon Factory library. The UVI portal just shows a spinning wheel where the "install" button should be. My first thought was that it was automatically installing, but it's been doing this now for about 20 minutes and I don't think the library is *that* big. I've tried all the standard tricks of quitting and relaunching the Portal, rebooting the computer, making sure Falcon 3 was functioning first, etc., but no joy. The installer just stays on the spinning wheel button.

I ran into a similar issue while installing a sound pack.

I restarted the UVI app and it kept cycling.

I let it run for quite awhile as I ran errands. Came back, same thing.

Turns out that my SonicPass subscription license on my iLok had to be updated. Once I did that, the spinning thing disappeared and the sound pack was listed as installed.

Perhaps there is an analogous situation here?

Good luck.

Hmmm... if I'm required to buy SonicPass, that might kill the deal for me. I have the UVI products I need without that annual subscription. I've submitted a tech support ticket. I'll report what they tell me. Hopefully, it's just a matter of updating my Falcon iLock license.

No you aren't required to buy SonicPass. I decided too do so sometime ago however.

There's a sale on Falcon for $199 with other perks if you don't own it. Mike described it in an earlier post.

But it sounds like you do own it? Or you are trying the demo? Either way, I believe there is an ilok authorization required.

All I'm saying is that perhaps that needs to be updated as that worked for me.

Cheers.

Interestingly, yesterday’s Falcon 3 and Factory Library updates are the only things that didn’t hang up UVI Portal for me this week as I reinstall VIs on my Studio.

It’s possible that so many are updating that the server is straining under the load. I think I was lucky in starting my updates a few minutes after the release yesterday.

I can't really say either is super clear and easy to work with, but to be fair both Kontakt and Falcon are super samplers with massive amounts of synthesis engines and capabilities added in. It's guaranteed to get messy with the feature sets these things have. Falcon might have a larger feature set this point.

One thing though, Falcon does have better GUI's for it's FX and the generally sound better than Kontakts.
Kontakt is multi core capable though, and Falcon is not. IMO they are both necessary, but I am more likely to use Falcon as a Sampler rather than a playback workstation like I do with Kontakt.
Those are helpful context. I wasn't thinking about the multi-core thing. I'm sure I'll keep using Kontakt for pre-fab things. Not sure how well I'll get on with Falcon. Depends how many walls I run into in the early days.

One early impression is that when I resize the UI, the font sizes don't change. I'm having just as much trouble seeing this UI as Kontakt. Need to learn where all the options to embiggen are.

Yeah, I've owned and used Falcon for several years now. I'm hoping it's something simple. I haven't heard back from UVI yet, but will report when I do. Thanks.

For any interested: This is a fantastic course on Falcon and covers through version 2.8.

It’s a lot better than trying to piece things together from disparate YouTube videos…

Falcon is hard to see. Tiny screen icons and fonts are super hard to read, make out.

Is that new in 3.0. It’s funny but I had the same impression about Kontakt.

Just to update on my inability to download the updated Falcon Library, I did hear back from UVI...

1. As an owner of Falcon, I don't need to have SonicPass so that wasn't the issue.
2. I'm also on a really fast wired network, so it wasn't download speed--at least on my end.
3. They had me try various things to reset the preferences for the UVI Portal, but that didn't help.
4. They reminded me that as a registered owner/user, I don't actually need to use the Portal, but can just log into my account on UVI and directly download the files from there, which is what I did. You need an app to uncompress the .rar file and then you need to manually move the .ufs file to the proper location, but once that is done, everything works just fine.

Yea, both for sure. At least with Kontakt I know how to zoom the keymapping section.

Doesn't the Falcon window have a size setting or pref? I didn't notice that the fonts were particularly small.

Edit: Yes there is a UI scaling preference. Take That Kontakt!!!
