My music dictates that my reverbs be very large and very long, sometimes impossibly so. I have nearly all the good reverb plugins that do that, along with hardware.

My typical template usually has (in order of most used):

UAD Lexicon 224 (I have at least two of those going always).

UAD Lexicon 480L

Lexicon PCM (halls and plates)

Seventh Heaven (Bricasti M7)

Eventide Black Hole (I also have 2 hardware units of this on my console)

Altiverb

UAD Capital Chambers

Valhalla Vintage, and Shimmer

Of all these the Lex 224's are most important to me. I've been playing with a new emulation by Arturia, the LX 24, which is great. It's not quite as close to the hardware as the UAD version IMO, but it's still new.. I'm hoping they perfect it over time. I absolutely must have the 224 sound in my productions, and if something happens to my UAD card, or they go subscription only someday and I have to dump their ass like a hot potato, I like to know I have some alternatives waiting in the wings..
DP11, 2019 16-Core Mac Pro, Monterey, 64GB RAM. RME HDSPe MADI FX to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix console, and multiple digital sub consoles. UAD Quad PCIe. Outboard stuff.

For my money, TC and Strymon are the top two most overrated reverbs. (Actually, "for my money" isn't right, I don't own any, just heard mediocre demos).

Since more than half of the plugs in this article are Reverbs, this is mostly OT.

Fun with meme generators. Sorry Audio Ease. Not to worry... got my cash ready for the version 8 upgrade.

Thanks, Mike. You meant "O[n] Topic" instead of "O[ff] Topic" I assume... hehe!

This will actually be really helpful as I splurged and popped for Eventide's Anthology bundle a while back when it was on a sale I just couldn't resist. (That's become almost any sale these days!)

Yes, you are not the only one. IIRC, we both got hooked by the free UltraChannel strip in the beginning.

So true! I now am on so many plugin developers' email lists I just get bombarded EVERY morning. I'm have to just start deleting them without reading them, or I'll end up in the poorhouse.

If I were more industrious, I'd use that meme generator for something like "just say NO to plug-in sales." :D

I haven't tried every reverb, so can't honestly say which is the best, but I have bought two that were cheap, and they suit me fine:

Valhalla Plate - $50 on sale. Sounds great to me. Light on the CPU.
Kilohearts Convolver - $39. I found a plethora of free impulse models on the web, some of which are models of revered plates. It's heavy on the CPU, though.

I have Kontakt Komplete, which ships with several reverbs that are fine with me, too. Some, like Reflektor, are embedded in the Guitar Rig multi-effects plug-in.

I also like ProVerb in DP.

Many moons ago there was a reverb by Kind of Loud called Realverb. I used it on many recordings. Kind of Loud got bought out by Universal Audio and it's the only reason I invested in a UAD card. UA renamed it Realverb-Pro and then added some features and named it Dreamverb. Both Realverb-Pro and Dreamverb still work on my UAD card, but I think only Dreamverb is available for purchase now.

https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/reve ... mverb.html

If you don't like adjusting reverb parameters, then it's not for you. But if you want lots of control over the sound of the reverb space, this is an excellent one to have in your arsenal (if you have a UAD dsp).

I remember RealVerb! IIRC, there were these 'room shapes' that were little graphics of various geometric shapes. (EDIT: ah, just looking at the currently available "DreamVerb" and there it is!!) I don't think I had a good sense of what I like or dislike in a reverb at that stage in my development.

Some years ago, Babz hipped me to a plugin called Wizoo which had amazing reverbs. Though it is long-gone, I think it was the very best hybrid (convolution/algorithmic) reverb I ever heard.

https://www.kvraudio.com/product/wizooverb-w2-by-wizoo

HOFA's IQ Series Reverb (v2) has a lovely GUI, and impressive features. I've only checked out the demo material, but it does seem very well-equipped for all use cases. Not as good sounding as Wizoo (IMHO), but versatile.

Then there's it's nemesis, Nightmareverb, aka DP's eVerb.

Love that Altiverb meme, James.

Although this tutorial features the SP2016, a favorite of mine, the principles apply to most others.

It goes on sale frequently so I can't recommend buying it @ $249. SP2016 is also included in the $299 Clockworks Bundle.
